Select Fire CZ 52
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:33:20 AM »
Does any one know if a select fire version of the CZ 52 was ever considered?  It seems a natural progression to me.

No, I've never read that.  I've read just about everything I can find written in English about this pistol, and fully automatic operation is just never mentioned.

I've been in a couple of different countries that have used the 52 religiously and I've yet to see a select-fire version...even modified to that.  However, I have been up close and personal with the silencer equipped version and the actual rifle (ultra-uber-rare) designed/modified to shoot the 7.62x25 cartridge.  That rifle is a heavily modified CZ-SHE rifle and produces very ugly results with Bulgarian High Velocity steel core ammo.

Of course, I'm not surprised that I ran into both of those.  My team discovered a fighting position that had AK magazines that were made of hardened medical tape, a spring, and a follower.

I forgot to mention that there was a 7.62x25 submachingun at one point.  Thus why they don't suggest shooting smg 7.62x25 ammo through the 52 as it will destroy the pistol.  Bulgarian milsurp ammo from the 50's was notorious for being hot loads, likely smg ammo.  There used to be a headstamp identification for them, but I'm not sure if it even exists anymore.  Thought makarov.com had that info there a long time ago, but I could be wrong.

One of many good reasons why no one would ever make a full auto CZ-52 is because a single shot 12 gauge pistol accomplishes the same thing. What you'll get is one pull of the trigger and everything dumped out uncontrollably, MAYBE hitting your target once or more.

I would imagine that one good reason for not having a select-fire CZ52 was because the caliber is fairly powerful and hard enough to control in rapid-firing semi-auto situations, let alone a full-auto burst.  This is the same reason why there are no full-auto .357AMP auto guns.  Besides this the ppSH guns were available in full auto for 7.62x25 and fulfilled the need at the time as far as SMG's go.  You really don't want to go above a 9mm power in terms of pistols which are select fire like the Glock 18c.  That being said, I wish to heck there were one, for no other reason that it would probably mean that there would be some surplus 20rd capacity magazines available which would work in standard CZ52's, albeit sort of unwieldy.... We can dream..

Well they did have the CZ 26 SMG so a select fire would have been redundant cool but redundant.

A CZ-52 with a 20 round single column magazine is called a "Tonfa."

So you're saying that it would only be useful as a club?

I guess in terms of the "single stack" 20rd idea for a CZ52 I was kind of hoping that somebody might come up with a tapered design that wouldn't stick out so much, and which would go from double-stack back to single.  Sort of like the way that the magazine tapers down on the Sites "Spectre" SMG.  This would still stick out from the bottom of the gun some, but not as bad as if were an extra 12rds stacked single-file.  See the Spectre mag style below:

CZ DID make a select fire pistol, just not the 52.  Here's a pic of the CZ 75 select fire:

Note that a spare mag acts as a forward grip.

According to their European website it's still available to Military and law enforcement.

http://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/86-armed-forces-law-enforcement/OS-AUT/CZ_75_FULL_AUTO.aspx

And the device to attach a mag to the front rail is available for the CZ 75.

If you have the rail adapter.
