New Purchase- With Questions
« on: October 11, 2009, 03:14:25 PM »
I am in the process of purchasing this fine CZ 85 Combat. The seller is a long way from me so I can't view the gun in the hand. I have never purchased a CZ before and I have a few questions for the CZ experts. First- does this finish appear to be matte nickel ? Was this finish a special order from the Custom Shop perhaps? I assume the gun is all steel not an alloy frame?  The serial number is A 191892. Anyone know the date of manufacture? Finally, anyone know where I can locate an original manual for the gun?
Let me know what you think-the  gun is mint, less than a box of shells fired through it  two mags, unfortunately no box or manual.  I am paying $650.00 Canadian dollars (say $625 USD) delivered. A fair price?

i have never seen a high gloss/gloss nickel finish on a CZ.  however, CZ does offer anniversary issues so i wouldnt be surprised if they did you a gloss nickel.   the nickel ive seen have been mat/satin.   and the one you have shown looks like a mat/satin.

to me, on the outisde, it looks fine, but i would have to disassmeble the gun to see what ware, if any, is on the gun.

if the seller is truthful about the round count, i wouldnt worry since all of CZs guns are test fired and as such, will have some rounds thru them.

if you have the owner look near the ejection port, there is an oval above the extractor with a year code.

you can find manuals from CZs web site. you can download them.

afa price goes, who knows what good. for me and down here, it appears high.  you are in Canada and i know that prices are different then down here.   you could look at your gun auction/selling sites and see what they go for.  also some sites have past/old sales so you could search there too.

I purchased a brand new CZ85 combat in satin nickel finish last week and paid  $650.00 us dollars from a gun shop that special ordered it for me.It looks just like the gun in the picture. But i was told that CZ coats the gun with this nickel finish coat. I did not research into this issue, so dont hold this nickel coating issue that i mention to me because i might be incorrect. Because i am left handed and i have a black coated Cz85 and enjoyed it so much I decided to buy the combat model so it did not matter how it was finished, I would have bought it anyways. I am not a gun expert but the CZ85 feels very comfortable in my hand based on the few guns i have tried and own.

I was told that my satin nickel finished gun was a Special Edition order from several years ago. I see on the CZ website that the CZ85 Combat comes in three different finishes including matte nickel so it must be a pretty popular finish.

That is a good price for up here.  I see you  are buying it from Gunnar.  I looked that gun myself.  Should have bought it.  Waiting on a M&P Pro so decisions had to be made.

 Hi Bob,
No, actually I bought it from Ben Hogue (gunmanquebec) I must say I'm not pleased with his lack of service. I deposited funds into his account on Wendesday and am still waiting for a reference #. Poor service to say the least--

 Canuck 44-

     Hi Bob,
I just heard back from " the gunman." He has had a family emergency and promises to email me the reference # tomorrow. So, I take back what I said in an earlier post.   Yes, I found the gun on Gun Nutz. He was asking 700, I offered 650 shipped and he accepted it. You'll see the ad on page 4 or 5.

Good score.  You will have to go out and play IDPA with it.  4.1 gr of 231 under a 125 gr lead bullet is a vbery good load if you reload.

That's the satin nickel finish and was one of the regular finishes available when I bought mine in 2003.  The finish has held up quite well to use of a CendEX holster in competition over the years.

My 85 Combat is the most reliable gun I own.  Shoot it a while then send it to Angus or Matthew Mink for an action job.

Enjoy your new CZ.

Canuck 44- I do reload. I've been loading 9mm  a little bit hotter but will back off on the powder.

8Ring -- Thanks for the info. Sending the CZ across the border for an action job is too much of a hassle.Hopefully I can find a gunsmith in Canada to do any work needed on this gun if necessary. It's basically brand new so hopefully it does not have issues.

I have replaced my mainspring with a 13# spring from Ghost Products.  This lightens the trigger pull considerably.  I use Win, CCI and Federal primers with my reloads and have had no trouble setting off the cartridges.  If you order a mainspring from Ghost you might want to get the reduced power recoil spring as well if you are loading down to 125 - 130 power factor.

CarlosA,
I too am left handed. That is one of the reasons I decided to purchase the pistol. I'm a big fan of adjustable sights as well so having them factory installed was an added bonus. The transfer was approved a few days ago so with luck the gun should arrive next week.I hope it's as nice as it appears in the pictures--
     Good shooting and stay safe--

$617.50 USD

Good looking gun.

I replaced the 20# with the 13# hammer/main spring (and 11# recoil) and had a couple of FTF on first strike per 100 with Winchester Primers.

I use Federal spp only now and NO FTF--a pain to get just Federal,  but worth it for the trigger.
