CZ 85C sights
« on: November 03, 2009, 05:44:46 PM »
I have looked at a number of pictures on this forum of members' 85c's.  Some have changed the front sight to fiber optic.  Others have left on the stock front sight.  I shoot both indoors and outdoors and will be ordering an 85C in the near future. Is the white dot on the stock front sight large adequate for both or should I change it out?

most of my CZ have the faux night sights.  they are what you call the white dots.  To me, they are just fine for the paper punching i do.  I do have an SP01 with the Night Sights and imo, they are nice, but it doesnt make me want to change all of my CZs to the same.

i have seen the FO FS too.  Im not impressed with them.  They do have their role, but for my range guns, the OEMs are just fine.  I think that if you need them for whatever reason, go for it.  as long as they are swappable, there shouldnt be a reason to not swap them back if you need to.

For fast pick up of the sights when shooting cardboard targets FO is the way to go.  There is a reason why they are popular as they are in IPSC.  They work.  I think green is picked up faster by the eye then red but it depends on your preference.  All my guns I use for shooting either IDP{A or IPSC have them and I intend to change out my 97B to them as well.  Incidently I changed my rear sight on my 85 Combat to the fixed competition rear sight.  I think it is easier to pick up.  Unless you are into Bullseye shooting I don't see much use for an adjustable sight on my handguns.  I have a set on my Trojan and once set I have never moved them.

So, after going through my IPSC safety training, I understand the advantage of an FO front sight.  Now, I want to get one for my CZ85 Combat.  Problem is, I don't know where to get them and what size to get.  Is there a standard replacement for the factory CZ85 Combat's factory front sight?  Any pointers to an online store that carries them?

Thanks!

Ghost Products, a sponsor of this site, carries them.  That is where I got mine.  Replace your hammer with a competition hammer and you will have one sweet trigger.  The competition reear sight is a much better sight for playing IPSC/IDPA as well.

Thanks, Bob.  Is replacing the hammer something I can do myself (I'm fairly handy with tools and I replaced the trigger group in my 10/22, if that counts ;))?

Also, what is the advantage of the competition rear sight?  I figured I would just black out the white dots on the adjustable rear sight that is on it now.

BTW, I asked the guys at the CZ Custom Shop/Ghost Products and they said order the 5.5mm FO sight in either 1.0 or 1.5mm width.  Since my rear sight opening is about .2", would the 1.0mm or 1.5mm be better?  I assume bigger would acquire faster, but smaller might give better accuracy (since it wouldn't fill the rear sight opening so fully)?

I should mention that my goal for shooting IPSC/USPSA is not to win.  My goal is to improve my gun handling.  So, I'm not going to go crazy and build or buy a race gun.  I want to use a stock gun (which I already own ;) ) with a few simple changes to improve the shooting.  Anyway, that's the plan today, it could change tomorrow. ;D

Thanks for any help,
Dave

The advantage of the competition sight is it has a wider cut.  I am not much of a fan of adjustable sights for compeition purposes.  From a practical point of view if the rear sight/front match the gun will shoot at POA from my experience.  If you decide to keep the adjustable sight go with the thinest front sight you can get as you want light on either side of the rear sight for faster sight acquisition.  The competition hammer will give you an outstanding trigger.  Add a 13# or 15# mainspring and you will have one sweet trigger.
