Joining The Club, Have a Question
« on: September 13, 2019, 06:24:54 PM »
I have a 97BD coming Monday. I wanted the B, but moved a little too slow, so I spent the extra cheddar on the BD. Been trying to get one of these for about a year, so I didn't mind the extra money spent.

As to the question: My P 07 Duty came with the parts to convert from decocker to thumb safety, which I did. I'm not a decocker guy. Can the 97BD be converted? I'm assuming you could, but we're all aware of what happens when you assume, lol. Seems the frame and internals should be the same, but I may be wrong. In the end, it's not a big deal, since this will be range only, never carried.

The 97BD cannot be converted to a safety model.  The frames are different between the B and BD.  Same for the 75 series variants.  The omega guns are special as are the P series in that you can convert between the two styles.

Rejoice in that you purchased the better option for a range toy and for carry (IMHO).

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks, I had a feeling the frames might be different, but didn't know for sure. Hence the assuming part, lol. I'm very happy to be getting one, finally. We all have our preference for decocker vs safety. Being a 1911 guy of many years, mine is TS. At this point, I'm just waiting for the call from my FFL, and putting some rounds down range.

Enjoy it...fantastic pistol. I love my 1911s, but for carry purposes in the DA/SA space, CZ decocker models are fine, well made pistols.

If yours has the loaded chamber indicator, get some blue loctite and apply to the tiny hex that holds the assembly in place. They back out otherwise and send you looking for impossibly small parts. It’s a one and done deal...will save you a little bit of heartburn down the road (not all have them, but the vast majority do). Mine was loose and almost backed out after only 100 rounds so just be aware of it.

I find my 97 BD to be one of the most pleasant full size .45 pistols I have to shoot...incredibly smooth and flat shooting all things considered.
