Went shooting today...
« on: May 03, 2010, 01:08:56 PM »
...and for the first time in a loooong time, I wasn't worried about group size. Was on the 25 yard pistol range, with the target at 25 yards, using the vz-58 standing, practicing fire two, check, fire three, check, EOTech with both eyes open, (very easy to do once you get the hang of it!), checking three new magazines, including the 20 rounder, for function. The 20 round mag seemed to need a break in, but once it had been used several times, it was working perfectly. The other two Czechpoint mags were flawless.
The P01 went to bat at 25 yards with some reloads...and I am glad I left the camera at home. Let me be polite to myself, and describe my shooting as "uninspired"...ouch.
But, this was also when I was trying to have the double feed jam described in the P01 forum, with a version of a tactical reload, (where you keep the partial magazine while replacing it with a full one, preferrably during a lull in the shootout), one where an instructor told the shooter to eject the chambered round AFTER putting the fresh magazine in. Odd. But it was reported by two poeple here that they were getting this double feed, so I tried it, though I MUST say don't do it that way. Ejecting a chambered round will only cost you a precious cartridge and irreplaceable second in any actual gunfight; praying none of here ever sees that for real!
So, I did it, full mags, partial mags, almost empty mags, reloads, factory ammo, nothing, nada, no burps, all good.
Last I moved the targets in to 10 yards to practive a few rounds of old factory ammo with the Crimson Trace Lasergrips, which were quite easy to see at that range in bright sunlight. Ah, vindication, some very nice groups using the laser only. It can be done, don't jerk the trigger when the dot roams over the bullseye, won't work. cornerdcat.com has a great writeup on how to use lasers. I also felt finally that I hadn't lost, how do the kids call it? My "mad skillz". :)
