527 Carbine Grendel Conversion
« on: November 30, 2010, 07:37:54 PM »
I've found reference to this all over the 'net, but every time I try to find a gunsmith that does this conversion, I hit a dry hole.

Here's what I want to do:

I want to convert the carbine to 6.5 Grendel, I want to reattach the original sights to the barrel.  I want it to be a tackdriver.

This combination seems so obvious to me I can't believe CZ isn't already doing it.

Any suggestions?

I would like a 527 made up in Grendel, but I would want mine in the Mannlicher stock.

Christmas is coming, maybe you could ask Santa? Have you been a good boy?

This would be a great little carbine. Its seems that a new 20 inch barrel is the minimum for this conversion in this caliber. Go to wwww.gunmart.net and look under gun reviews on the 6.5 grendel, he did this conversion and has alot of info.

I can't remember the name of the gunshop, but here is a link to one of their auctions on Gunbroker:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=238250249

They used to have a few 527 conversions to 6.5 Grendel up for auction. I stopped by their store in Georgia close to 3 years ago and bought one from them.
It has a 24" lothar walther barrel built on a 7.62x39 CZ 527 carbine. It is a great little gun, and yes the 527 is a natural for this conversion.

At the time they had 4 or 5 other converted rifles in the store, some with slim sporter barrels like mine and some with heavy barrels. I thought I wanted a heavy barrel until I held both. Their heavies were too front heavy for me.

use the contact info on the auction and they might be able to help you out with your search.

Thanks, that would be very interesting to see. That would definately be a hand load proposition for me. :) WalMart doesn't carry that flavor yet.
