Shadow trigger problem
« on: June 27, 2010, 09:54:04 AM »
Hi guys... i'm not sure whether to post it here or in the gunsmithing section so if it's not ok, feel free to move this to the appropriate section.
I have an spo1 shadow that has gone through about 4k rounds without any problems whatsoever (i did all the reliability tips that i read about in this site as well as installed the competition hammer myself) until today... sometimes, my trigger would just lock up and fail to fire in single action. at first i thought the problem was that i was engaging the safety while shooting so i taped the safety up and ran several courses without the trigger locking up. as i was cleaning the gun this evening, i decided to analyze the problem as i wasn't thoroughly convinced that the safety was causing it. upon closer inspection, i realized that the break in single action wasn't as crisp as it used to be. looking at the sear while pulling the trigger, i noticed that it was barely clearing the hammer hooks. thinking that i set the overtravel screw too deep, i backed it out entirely but the clearance between the sear and the hammer hooks was still the same. then i noticed that when i pull the trigger, my right hand safety moves also, as well as the entire sear cage. apparently, the sear cage is moving backwards as i am pulling the trigger so that at it's rearmost position, the sear barely clears the hammer hooks when the shot breaks.
i hope you guys can help me with this.... do i need a new sear cage? i tried shimming the rear portion of the sear cage with a dental pick and it seems to solve the problem. can i just do a build-up of the rear portion so that it prevents the rearward motion of the sear cage? hoping for your quick reply guys and i'd really appreciate the help. thanks in advance
