CZ 75 with parts from different pistols
« on: August 17, 2010, 09:55:10 AM »
I purchased my  CZ 75B pistol used from a local gun shop. It has a slide and barrel from a 2003 75B and a frame from a 2009 75 compact with decocker. I have fired a few hundred rounds without problems. Does anyone have any experience with cz pistols made of parts from different guns? The gun came to my local shop from a wholesaler who sold it as a "new" gun.

Do the serial numbers on the frame, barrel and slide match?  If not than it's either assembled from different pistols or it's a pistol that had warranty work done on it.  I wouldn't buy a non-matching CZ but that's just my personal preference.    There's no reason why it shouldn't be as reliable and durable as an all matching CZ.

I'm a little lost. You are saying you bought the gun used but the store got it from wholesaler as a 'new' gun?
On the other hand, if you like the gun, it feels right, shoots well and you paid 'right' price, why not?

It has one serial number on the slide and barrel from 2003(a 75B Stainless or satin not sure which) and another on the frame from 2009 ( a black poly coat compact w/ decocker) it only takes 14 round mags. The gun shop bought it "new" I have seen the paperwork. The shop sold it to a local guy who had to get rid of it due to a drunk driving conviction and put it up for sale at the shop after having it a few months. The first owner paid about $700 "new" I paid $400 used. Fires well and I like it but I am confused as to why it was sold this way and am looking for anyone who has had a similar experience. Thanks.

It's not unusual for pistols to come with non-matching parts.  I've seen NIB Glocks with different serial numbers on the frame and slide and barrel.

In the US the only serial number that counts is the one on the frame whereas in some European countries every major component has to have a serial number.  Some countries are even stricter and they regulate every single component down to magazine springs.

Companies hate to waste money.  If for some reason reason a frame was damaged they'll slap the slide and barrel on a different frame and sell it as new.  In other cases parts will be warehoused and used as needed consequently creating a situation where parts have different year and serial number stamps.

Have you tried calling CZUSA to get more information?

May not be this time as slide and barrel have same # and dated by '03 and frame is '09 with diff #; too much of a gap, me think.
