CZ452 Thumbhole Varmint is a POS
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:57:54 AM »
I bought my husband this riffle, and it's not the best of shooters we have. We own a wide variety of CZ's from 2-550 varmints calibured in .308 and 22-250, a 572 varmint caliburated in .204 Ruger 2-452's in .22 LR and then the 452 thumbhole varmint is also .22LR. So we know how these babies will shoot. They are on fire!! We took this little thumbhole out the first time, had it bore sited, so shouldn't have been that bad off, it never hit the paper at 50 yds. Finally at 25 yds we hit paper. Make a long story short we put three different scopes on it and none of them did any good. The best group we could shoot was about three touching the same hole and two fliers out of 5. We used every kind of ammo we could think of from eley tenex to wolf match extra. Which is what we use at all our competition matches. So we box it up send it back to CZ. They kept the riffle for 8 weeks. my husband starts calling weekly after 4 wanting to know what is going on with his gun. On week 7 they tell us yes the gun is defective and they will send us another. We thought "ok" "good" "finally something is getting done". So we asked how long til we get our new gun. They said they were out at the factory but had a shipment coming from the Czech Republic but were held up in customs at the border. Well yesterday the Fed-Ex man came with a gun. The exact same gun we sent off. My husband called today, they said the gun shoots within 'their' expectations and we were stuck with the gun. When my husband questioned about the new one coming, "they never said that"!! Of course. So now we are stuck with a gun that shoots so-so, not the competition gun it was going to be used for. Do you have any idea's on how to make the gun shoot better? We will have it bedded, other than that im not a very happy customer now.

Hello, I sent a rimfire to CZ before to have the accuracy tested because I thought something was wrong with it. Its a 453 varmint in 22 lr. The best group i could get was about 1.25" at 50yds which seemed bad to me. They ended up testing the gun, and sending me the target with the types of ammo tested written on it. They ended up shooting 5 shots at just about .55", I don't remember the exact group size. Anyways they told me the type of ammo they used to shoot that group and I switched and never had any more issues. What size group did they say they shot with it? Can you post the target they sent you? Let us know.

Looks like from the target they sent back it was the eley biathlon EPS that shot the best two groups. One at .530" and mind you only two holes are touching each other the rest are all over. And the other was a group at .475", had a nice looking group going but still had two fliers. I will work on trying to post the whole target.

My husband bed the action and now its the tack driver it's supposed to be. We took it out this weekend and it shot great!! It actually likes remmingtons target ammo., which is surprising all the other .22's like the wolf match extra. He ended up putting a BSA Sweet 22 scope on it. So now he has a really nice set up that was almost a really bad deal.

We actually have had good luck with BSA on .22's. I like mine better than the Bushnell I had, plus we got them for nothing.

Just from the title I had to look in on this thread. :o  I hate to hear that someone is unsatisfied with their cz, seems like you never hear it.  Owning a TH Varmint myself I've been extreamly happy with it!  I'm glad you have yours worked out!

I'm glad to hear it also as I just purchased a 452 varmit TH.  Last week was first trip to the range and I shot 1 1/2" at 100 yards.  Good for my old eyes and I'm sure it'll get better.  Can I ask if you use a bore guide and if so what brand?  Thanks
