? "O" ring size for grip screws on CZ 82
« on: September 15, 2010, 01:22:48 PM »
I have read in several online posts about the utility of inserting "O" rings under the grip screws on the CZ-82 so that one can tighten without cracking the grips but have not found any info re the exact size of the "O" rings which will fit (they are clearly very small).
Has anyone measured the screw size on the grips or perhaps found the "O" ring size which fits?
thanks for any help

The "o-rings" keep the screws from working loose, a common problem. The grips on fitted with only one screw, which tends to work loose as the gun recoils in the hand. A lock washer from the local hardware store will do the same and easier to find. It's the pressure on the grips from tightening the screws that cause them to crack, also a common problem.

You can also purchase wood grips from Marschal's grip in Hungary. They start @ $65 shipped, fit well, and come in several different woods, styles, and finishes. He sends a set of lock washers with them. You can save the plastic grips for resell purposes.

I tried the o-rings (don't remember the size, it's been a while), but the ring does raise the top of the screw slightly relative to the grip. Kind of bothered my hand when I shot so I quit using them. They don't cost much so you can try them and see how they work out for you. My solution to the screws working loose is now I keep a screwdriver in my gun bag and just make sure I snug up the screws every 50 rounds or so. It's even a worse problem with my Rami, those screws are really short and they'll vibrate out and fall on the floor if you don't watch them. I know, I've lost a couple that way.

A dab of "green" loctite will hold them and will allow easy removal. The blue maybe, the red nearly permanent.

Thanks for all the shared experience--this seems to be a common problem.
Right now I am using the "carry a screwdriver in my gun bag" solution. I have a set of Marschalko grips on my FEG PA-63 and like them a lot.
Perhaps the best ultimate solution is to order a set of those grips for the CZ and carry on with the screwdriver in the interim.

It is a common problem. I have had a pair of grips crack from being loose while shooting before using the O rings. They are #60 O rings. I have not had the grips loosen up since using the O rings and also do not notice any difference in screw height with them.

You can find them by doing a google search(http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%2360+o+rings&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&gs_rfai=&start=0&uss=1). I simply walked into my local hardware store and asked for them. They should have them at just about any hardware store. A large pack of them cost $1.99.
