Do the mecgar mags come apart the same as the SP01 mags do?
« on: October 23, 2010, 11:47:39 AM »
Hi,

I am thinking about ordering some of these:

http://www.cdnninvestments.com/cz9mm17anmag.html

They don't have the taller plastic base, just a regular plastic base.  My question is do these have the same metal plate and hole in the bottom of the mags as the SP01 factory mags do?  I really like the way the factory mags come apart.  Can someone post a picture of one of these if they have any?

Thanks,

Alan

yes..they have a retaining plate that attaches to the mag springs. the basepad slides on and a hole in the pad mates up with a nub on the retaining plate.

the new AFC mags are nice made and inexpensive.

Hi,

I'm trying to decide between the AFC ones with a plastic base, or the metal base blued ones.  Does anyone have the metal base ones?  Do they have the same pin that fits in the base hole style?

Thanks,

Alan

I have the older 16 round MecGars with steel base pads. If you shoot any USPSA matches or think about taking any defensive shooting classes where you practice emergency reloads at indoor ranges, where you dump partially full mags on hard, concrete floors, get the plastic pads.  After a few months of repeated use, steel base pads get beat up enough that they no longer come apart easy for cleaning.
