Odd Hammer position on CZ 82
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:52:56 AM »
Hey guys I just bought a surplus CZ 82 & picked it up from my FFL today. Got home & was playing with it. The hammer is odd. It almost looks like at full rest that it's actually half cocked. Is this normal? I can't push it forward so it touches the firing pin. Is this a safety feature, since i'm sure FPBs weren't around back then? It does seem however that if i pull the trigger & hold the hammer I can push it forward past whatever is holding it in the half cock looking position, so that it actually touches the firing pin. So i'm assuming once the trigger is pulled it can hit the firing pin?

Is this normal. All my other CZs are new & have FPBs where the hammer rests touching the firing pin, & this is just throwing me off. I just want to make sure this is normal on a CZ before I goto the range to find out it doesn't work.

Someone with more knowledge of the platform may chime in- but as I understand it (from several other posts), yes it's normal.

That's normal--it is a safety feature that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is fully compressed.  If you were to pull the trigger all the way back and hold it there you would be able to push the hammer down onto the firing pin, but without the trigger being all the way back you'll never get that hammer to move any closer to the pin.

Yeah i discovered if you pull the trigger while holding the hammer, you can push it forward & make it touch the firing pin. I own a CZ 75 & RAMI, both are newer age guns, where i was use to either a half cock or full down where it touches the firing pin. Just wanted to make sure.

As others have said, perfectly normal.  Took me a bit of getting used to when I got my first 82.  Good pistol the 82.
