Overtravel Screw Adj.
« on: March 18, 2004, 01:48:46 AM »
I have an 85B and the overtravel screw seems to be stuck.  It has been like this since I got it.  I have tried everything I can think of(soldering iron, micro torch etc...) and it won't budge either way.  I'm trying to do this without removing the trigger from the pistol.  Anyone else run into this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Alan Elam LCpl/USMC

Did you ever get your screw loose?  I saw your post awhile ago but figured if heat didn't loosen it up, I had no other suggestions.

You might try acetone.  If it has thread locker, that might loosen it up.

I have tried heat, cold, penetrating oil, and I am now ready to resort to witchcraft.  Or send it in to Mike, failing success with chicken bones.  I need it for a match coming up but I'm shopping around for a CZ75 SA.  Once I get one I think I'll send it off for a metal trigger and his famed trigger job.  Then send in the 85 and see what he can do for it.  It really urks me because the trigger is awesome excluding the overtravel.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Alan

Wait until after your match.  The overtravel adjustment isn't going to make THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE in your shooting results.  (I have overtravel adjustments on my 85 Combat and my 75B SA, and I honestly can't see that either trigger is "better" for match use than the stock trigger on my pre-B 75 or a Custom Boland AT84s, neither of which have adjustable triggers.)

Then, after the match, consider having Mike do a trigger job when he does the rest of the work.  (You're going to have to pay to ship it, anyway, so you might as well go "whole hog" and do it right.)

The other alternative is to ask around and find a 'smith in your local area.  Mine does simple trigger jobs (not full action jobs) for under $50, and it noticeably improves the trigger.

When he has the trigger out, he can get the overtravel screw loosened up, take the sharp edge off the trigger with a Dremel, and reset the overtravel.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I'm going to shoot the Space City match with the pistol as is.  Once I locate the ever elusive reasonably priced CZ-75 SA I'm sending it to Mike for the full trigger job.  After I have the SA in action I will then send in the 85 for similair treatment.  The only sharp edge on the trigger that really bothers me is the overtravel screw, which protrudes from the trigger a noticeable amount.  I'm kind of hesitant to let anybody else but Mike do it, I saw more than a few unsafe triggerjobs in CA where the 85 is all the rage for production.  Plus I know he'll stand behind his work.

Thanks,
Alan
