Any corrosion issues with the black polycoat?
« on: October 18, 2005, 09:46:58 AM »
Almost all of my pistols/revolvers are blued
and I am +1 anal about keeping them wiped down.
I've enjoyed not having to do this with my new 97B...
My question though has anyone had any corrosion issues, beyond, beyond the mags/barrel that I should be worried about?  Also, has anyone had any issues with cleaning solutions damaging the finish that I should be aware of?
Last, are there any stainless mags available?  I use stainless chip mcormicks in my 1911... relatively corrosion proof mags are a huge convenience....

Thanks all.

Sorry to veer off topic, but I love the way the polished blue finish looks on my 97.  I'm really hard on finishes, since I carry daily and draw/holster copiously.  (I'm already seeing wear at the front edge of the muzzle on my 97 after about three weeks)
I'm really considering getting the polished black chrome finish offerred by Ford's when mine starts really showing wear.
It seems to approximate the look of blue steel, albeit in black.  Really very attractive, and also gives a larger degree of corrosion resistance than blue steel.

I've never heard of any problems with rust with the polycoat finish.  The gun has layer of manganese phosphatee under the polycoat, too.

Blued guns are beautiful, but a pain in the butt to keep up.  I prefer plated guns and polycoat.  (Some stainless ones, too, if they're not real flashy.)

thanks for the responses... I like the look of blued
but I already have a bunch that require a lot of care...
Its nice to have one I can dry fire and case with no worries.

My polycoat either has a small area of corrosion or some small fish eyes on the front of the slide that I did not notice when I picked it up and even not realy until about a month later. It must be a fluke.
