In a pickel. Would like to get a cz82, as I feel the wife could handle it, and it could replace her beretta 84bb. Then, the 300 bucks I would get off of the beretta could buy more ammo/mags. I already have a decent amount of 9x18.....Or, I could just buy 4 mecgar cz75 mags, and a ton of 9x19 ammo for the cz75 to put it through its paces.

I am leaning towards buying the cz82. What would you guys do?

What does your wife want since you said it is her gun?

Oh, and to add a comment that could actually be helpful, I love my 82, and (as a relatively new shooter) find the recoil very manageable.  My wife likes it too.  If your wife likes it it's a great choice, especially at the bargain prices they are available for.  I'm sure that if you posted this question in the 82/83 sub-forum you'd hear a lot of praise and encouragement.

Really though, make sure you take your lead from your wife if it's to be her gun, and I'm sorry if my first comment came across as snarky, it wasn't intended to be so.

Well, she can manage the recoil of a makarov pm, or the beretta in .380. BUT, the makarov pm hurts her hand after 50 rounds, as the grip is too small and does not fit her hand well. My thinking is a bigger grip in the cz82, ditch .380, and just stock 9x18. I am having second thoughts though. I am personally happy carrying my pm, I just want to cut another caliber. BUT, she shoots the beretta 84 WELL and accurate, and 13+1 rounds of .380 isn't bad, and I guess whats the big deal about having a few boxes of .380 around......

I don't think stocking three different calibers of centerfire pistol ammo is excessive.  I stock .45ACP, 9x19mm, and .38S&W Special.

You say she shoots her Beretta well.  (I have always liked that pistol whenever I've held it.)  There are some good .380ACP self-defense ammo brands out there for her to carry.

So my advice: buy CZ75B and Beretta 84 mags and accessories, 9x19mm and .380ACP ammo, and shoot up your 9x18 in the PM for enjoyment...... ;D

The CZ-82 recoil is worse than my CZ-75b, or any of my other 9mm handguns. I tried to get a close female companion to use the CZ-82, and she way preferred my XD-9. I just think the blowback action generates too much snap for a small wrist.

DogBite - You may want to consider putting in a new recoil spring if you feel the recoil is more than you'd expect.  A lot of people like to move up to a 16 lb spring to reduce felt recoil, though I'm personally happy with the standard weight.  Plus it's cheap, you can get them for less than $8 from Wolff.

Agreed.

I shot my '82 after cleaning it up when I first received it.
I decided to get some 16.5lb Wolff mainspring for it.(they also include a new firing pin with this).  You never know how long that mainspring has set.  Yrs.  Decades.

I feel the new springs have helped a bit.  But also, I just have the knowledge that it has fresh springs for a new life.  Hey, its a very cheap mod.

As others initially mentioned, of course, let your wife have huge input on this one.  That would be the ONLY mistake in this whole deal.  ;)

Good luck...
