New 455 @ the Range
« on: December 12, 2010, 08:45:25 AM »
Picked up this CZ455 from my FFL on Wednesday after getting a killer deal from an online store. When got it home and started the inspection I noticed that it has "453" stamped on the receiver. After removing he stock I noticed no set trigger, and it has 2 set screws that hold the barrel in place... so i jumped on this site and compared pics from Hotrod9mm's thread and my gun looks just like his 455. Guess some yahoo at the factory just engraved the wrong model number on it. Anyways here's the pics from the first range trip yesterday. Shot about 6-7 different types of ammo, the Ely and Wolf MT seemed to shoot the best. Still have some tinkering to do on the trigger. Thinking about ordering the $15 kit from Ebay, seems like that gets a ton of good reviews. Anyways here is my first CZ rifle!

Specs:
CZ 455 (stamped 453)
25MOA dovetail to a standard Picatinny Scope Base from www.diproductsinc.com
TPS 1" Rings
Leupold 6.5-20x40 with Target Dot
Harris Bipod
Eagle Stock Pack

Very nice looking.  Why the 25moa base?  I have one on a 338 Lapua, but it's still lethal at 1500yds.  I have +/- 60moa in the scope, so I can get 100yds and 200yds easily.  I may want to put a 25moa base on my 22lr.

Most scopes run out of elevation on the 22lr at about 150yrds using target ammo. The base makes it easy to reach 300yrds.

I think that may be my next purchase, in 22lr.  How is the accuracy?  Very nice looking rifle, btw.  Thanks for posting.

I would be interested to see what the length of the barrel is.  If it is 22.5 inches then i would be surprised.  From my own research I have seen that the 455 american cut the barrel down to 20.5".  if you get a chance measure it and let us know.   You may have the best of both worlds. Except for the single set trigger.  That would complete the 455 as a design.

Mine shoots rather will @50yrds for out-of-the box 22LR. Sooner or later I will hit the dime  ;D

Anyone have a combo or an extra barrel and do the swap thing?  If so, how does that work out.  Any accuracy issues due to switching barrels?

Shouldn't be any issues changing out the barrel, just follow the instructions in the booklet that came with it or follow an animation on process if you google it.  You need a torque screwdriver to set the barrel screws at 5 Nm and the stock screws at 6 Nm.  I've been shooting a heavy barrel varmint (22LR) out of my 455 and a .17 HMR barrel with no issues and have swapped twice.  I will get some better screws for the stock as the originals are  low industrial grade.
