Kadet Kit Issues
« on: June 06, 2011, 11:59:24 PM »
I just recently received my Kadet kit and I fitted it on my sp-01 but I am having issues with it.  The first time I took it to the range I tried some various bulk 22lr that I have had for a while and after every round I would have to cock the hammer back to fire.  I would fire a round and then pull the trigger and then nothing, pull again and it would fire.  I thought maybe it was the bulk ammo but after some searching I have read that it should be able to fire any ammo.  I bought some CCI 40 gr mini mags and it would do it every 6-7 rounds which is better but still wont run reliably.  I am hoping there is an easy fix and that I just missed something because I have been looking forward to taking my cz to shoot at the small bore falling plate matches at my local club.  Thank you in advance for any help.

You need to change the mainspring for the Kadet to work more reliably. I replaced mine with a 17lb mainspring, and while it's not 100% reliable, it's about 97% reliable which is good enough for me. With the factory 13lb mainspring on my Shadow SP01 Custom, it would light strike a lot, exactly as you describe. A second double-action pull would 99% of the time fire the round off.

I took the thing completely apart and pulled out the firing pin to see if I had the old one per cz's advice. I was bummed because I had the correct one and so I gave it a good cleaning and put it back together. I took it to the range and tried a magazine of stingers and I only had the problem once. I loaded a few more and it started firing like it should. Then I started loading the old assortment of bulk 22 and I ran through 100 rounds without a problem.  I was working on a load for steel challenge that day so I didn't have a lot of time to really test the kit but the next time I go out I will see how it handles 200-300.
