Hogue Grips
« on: November 20, 2011, 12:44:59 PM »
I just picked up a set of the Hogue rubber grips and I am having trouble fitting them properly to the gun.  If  I line the grips up on the frame, the holes for the screws don't line up.  It is very close, but just far enough to not allow the screw to line up.
If I install them to where the screw holes line up, the top of the grip doesn't fit within the frame.
Anyone have this problem?

I got it figured out.  I needed to trim the inside edge with a razor so the grip would slid up the frame a little bit.  One thing that scares me is that the screws look very close to becoming stripped.  Will the screw strip out before the threads in the frame if I run into a problem down the road?

I didn't have any problems when I did mine (2 75b's and a 85B) but next time I get a order for grips from someplace I might snag some extra screws to have them.

one side goes on before the other and you won't have any issues - did you read the instructions?

I read the instructions and I understand how to install them.  The problem was the hole for the screw covered half of the threads for the screw.  I could have shifted the grips up, but the part that is molded to fit inside the frame would be on the outside, causing the grip to sit above the frame.
I simply trimmed the upper part of the grip with a razor, and the holes were then able to line up.  They fit very nicely now.

BTE -- I had the exact same issue with my Hogue wrap around grip on my 75B. I did what you describe which allows the grip to fit properly against the steel in the handle. I've had no issues with the screws stripping. I made sure I took off just enough material to make them fit but enough not to push on the screw.

They fit great now. Wayyyy more comfortable in the hand than the factory grips!
