Favorite magnified optic (w/ 3" or so eye relief) mount method.

All of the mounting methods that I have been perusing seem to have pluses and minuses and  their adherents.  For instance the cantilever method is a bit pricier while the side rail mounts require gunsmithing (and require some trial and error which can be very pricey as well).  The CGN site has zillions of pics and it seems like early on the side rail mount was the way to go but they have been overtaken by the cantilever method more recently.  I cannot get the search to work on that site at all and 100 + page threads must be a quirk of our friends up north.  This is the authoritative poll for all time - make your opinion heard before Eric Holder takes your VZ out of your cold, dead hands.

Are there rings available that can be used to make an offset mount lean in to a more centered position?

PS: I am just hoping to mount a little 1-4X scope, not some giant sniper monstrosity.

PPS: I did see one sentence on a thread talking about NEA making a special top cover mount someday - that would be super awesome but it could be a long while since they big into making AR's right now.
