Trying out some new ranger-t's in the 97B & mag review
« on: April 10, 2012, 04:17:15 AM »
Awhile ago I ran 10 rounds (the stuff hurts in the wallet) of 230gr PDX1 ammo through an aftermarket Mec Gar magazine for the witness without any problems and while 10 rounds is no statistical sample to celebrate about , I was still pleased.

I recently bought 3 boxes of 230gr Ranger T ammo and wanted to test them out in the factory magazines. Without trying the standard mag springs I first tried running them with Wolff +10% mag springs, with these springs I really have to try hard to smash the 10th round into the mag. In both factory magazines with +10% springs the rounds would smash nose first into the feed ramp, no matter how the slide was released (slingshot or slide stop release). In my frustration I abandoned the factory mags and ran 10 flawless rounds through a mec gar witness mag.

The following day I went right back out, this time I had replaced one of my +10% mag springs with one of the factory springs, now having of each I was happy to retest. With the +10% spring installed I experienced the same nonsense issue and inability to feed reliably at all. Though I was very surprised and relieved that with the factory mag spring installed, my 97B would run the rangers without a problem.

Sorry for all the info, people seem to especially like details in regards to this gun's ability to feed hollow points, I'm just posting my experience.

I love my CZ97B, I'm no professional shooter by any means, but this thing amazes me at how well it allows me to place shots on target. At 10 yards my groupings with the new M&P9 I shot that day are too embarrassing to post online, but I'll show you guys my CZ groups any day  ;)

All in all it was a great weekend, I really have to start looking for a deal on a 75B to join the collection  ;D
