Reduced Power Hammer Spring for the CZ 75B SA (9mm)
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:15:37 AM »
Hi!  I have a CZ 75B SA, and I would like to know the lightest hammer spring you can install without compromising reliability. My son is having a hard time getting good groups due to a rather heavy trigger pull. I'm wondering if switching to a lower weight hammer spring could improve the trigger pull.

I would prefer Wolff Hammer Springs.

15# will set off everything.
depending on how much creep is on the hammer, that can be a big contributor to poor shooting.

I might be way off base with this, but I found that a lighter Hammer Spring really doesn?t affect the Trigger weight in a good way on a B-SA
A good Trigger job really is work done on the Hooks and Sear?.that?s what?s really needed, not so much Hammer Spring
Here?s an example;
I sent my B-SA into CZ-KC and had Mike (CZ?s old Pistolsmith) do a Trigger replacement with a Trigger job
In doing so, he installed a light Hammer Spring
Well, the new Hammer Spring was too light to set-off the .22lr rounds in my Kadet Kit
So I replaced the light Spring with an Extra Power Spring from Wolff?.and get this?..The Trigger weight went down by .5 lbs
It went from 4.0 with the light Spring to 3.5 with the Extra Power Spring, with a VERY crisp Break?.Go figure
You really need to get Stuart to do a Number One Trigger job on your Pistol
Just my $0.02 observation

I agree with both DenStinett and Stuart.

A lighter hammer spring will help reduce DA, which is not valid in your case. For SA, you need a re-profiled hammer (or competition hammer either from CZcustom or CGW). You will also need a trigger job, polishing of internals for a smoother action. Send it over to Stuart, or David at CGW, and you will be delighted with the results.

Life is too short to waste on a bad trigger pull

Thanks for the replies.  I would look for a gunsmith to do a good trigger job on the SA.  Shipping it to the States for a trigger job would be very costly.
