« on: February 20, 2012, 03:08:12 PM »
i have 200 rounds through my new cz85b.today at the range after 50 rounds when i put a reloaded magazine in the weapon it would not slide completely forward, leaving about a quarter inch of the barrel sticking out.i clean this weapon after each use, maybe i didn't oil it enough or does it have to be broken? any suggestions?

It sounds like the slide was not going into battery.

Did you use all the same ammo or was that mag loaded with different stuff?

I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Battery is the position of the slide for firing.

That's when the lugs on the barrel and the notches in the slide are engaged.

If the barrel is sticking out, the slide is not in battery.

It might be a lube problem, and most guns need a break in.

Have you stripped it down to look things over?

did you clean it before shooting it? if bought new the gun will prolly have machining grease/metal/gunk all over the rails etc. best to get it all off and then coat with oil. I hear many people's CZ like to run a bit wet as far as oil goes.

Welcome,

Q1.  how many rounds in the mag?

Q2.  How are  you releasing the slide after you insert the mag?

Your pistol is still "new" and "tight".  It does need to be clean and well oiled especially during the break-in period.
During the break-in, the slide should feed and seat the bullet into battery using the slide release lever if it's clean and lubed.
A more reliable way to chamber a round (especially during the break-in) is to pull the slide all the way to the rear and release it.  This loads the recoil spring to max. and will feed even a moderately dirty pistol.   This is the same thing that happens when you fire the pistol.

PS You don't have to empty a mag to stop shooting.   ;D ;)

Hope this makes sense and welcome to the forum.

CHECK THE BARREL to see if the last round is still in it.  This happened to me for the first time on my FNX at the range last week.  Yes it was a re-loaded round, and yes, I apparently failed to charge the case.

I have also had two reloaded rounds fail to go into battery in my CZ, but upon inspection, it turned out to be two defective rounds. (Bullets inserted crooked, causing a bulge in the case)

Look it over carefully, and try very hard to identify the problem before shooting any more rounds.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Same case with me.   Apparently, CZ pistols has tight chamber.   Also, over all length is critical.  If you are reloading yourself, check the overall length before proceeding with the crimp.  Insert the round into the chamber, make sure the round sits flush.  Bullet diameter is also a critical factor.  0.356" diamater is the less problematic.  Other pistols will accept up to 0.358".  This happened to me at least 5X in the last 2 months.  As I extract the jammed round, it opens up in the chamber spilling the powder.  It did not fire since it did not go into battery.   I have to use a squib rod to remove the slug.
