Size and feel of the 97B vs. the 75B
« on: March 31, 2012, 08:11:44 AM »
I just got a 75B and am officially in love, and now considering the 97B.  How do they compare in terms of size?  Is the grip considerably larger?  I have heard that the 97B is a little larger, is that true?

Also, can you get black sticky-grips like the SP-01 for the 97B?  I'm not really a fan of the wood-type grips that come stock on the 97B.

The 97B size wise is externally nearly identical to a 5" standard Government model 1911. The grip is noticeably larger than the one on the 75B, but not uncomfortably so, as long as you dont have stubby little fingers. Yes you can get thin grips and many different types of grips through CZ Custom.

the 97 is larger.
45acp is a longer overall round than a 9mm, so front to back is longer than a 75B.
I know there is a flat aluminum grip for the 97b that you apply grip tape to.

The 97 is my new favorite 45acp platform to shoot at the range but it is the largest  in terms of overall size, grip size and weight. The difference in grip/finger reach between the 75b and the 97B is small. The 1911 platform (with VZ grips) is noticably slimmer and easier to handle.  I have used the Houge wrap around grips and they will fatten it up so it is more like a CZ. Note the thickness of the 97 grips; you can't get too much thinner.

Not to confuse the issue but if you are looking for a slim, low weight,  hi-cap (13rnds) 45 acp platform look at the XD. It makes a great flashlight at night. ;)

Very interesting.  When I first was considering a .45 ACP, I shot an XD45 at the range and loved it.  However, through a convoluted series of events, I ended up owning two 9mm weapons: a CZ 75 SP-01 and an XD9.  I decided to take both the the range and put a couple hundred rounds through each, and whichever one won, that would be my new 9mm weapon.

Well, the CZ took that competition neatly (in a walk, actually).  Once I sell the XD, I will be in the market for a .45.  Hence, this post.

From your pic above, it looks like the 97B is actually a bit smaller in circumference than the XD.  Is that the case, or are my eyes deceiving me?  If so, I may end up with another CZ to add to my collection.  But before that, I will call around and see who has a 97B for me to pick up and play with.

The picture IS deceiving.  The XD is slimmer in all grip dimensions.
grip width XD=3cm CZ=3.2
Length; under trigger guard XD= 5.5cm CZ=6
Length; at bottom of grip XD= 5.3cm CZ=5.8
Length; front of trigger to back of grip XD= 6.7cm CZ=8.3 (This is why so many get trigger reach reductions)

One other BIG difference 13 vs 10 mag capacity.
