Does Anyone Load Their OWN S.D. Bullets?

Kobus might I respectfully suggest you try mp200....you will probably get the higher velocitys you need without the risk factor

yes Johnny.  scroll up on this page and check out the pic of my powder. i have used only Somchem MP200 up to now and have 3 full tins left.
i am starting to experiment with the S121. there are some very experienced re loaders from my lgs who shoots at the same range i do and they have been using S121 for a while already. BUT i still work up my own loads very carefully.

i really appreciate your concern. thanks. 

for interest sake when i get home tonight i will scan a pic of the load data from the Somchem booklet for S121, MS200, MP200, etc and post it here for scrutiny and any advice.

re 124gr GDHP and n340 in my Sig 239:  Well, I ran some chrono checks last week and got screwy results (lower bullet speeds) in bright sunshine.

So Sat. I loaded up a few more to a hotter load I don't need to mention., went to the range and DUH!!, didn't have the chrono in my truck.

I shot a few anyway, and they were snappy, not as soft as previous editions.  A very noticeable change with .2 grains more powder at the same oal.
The primers (Federal SPP) were dead flat, but not flowing around the FP ding, just flat-flat.  I tried to take some pics, but couldn't get it to show up. 

You really can't see that the primers are really flattened, but not otherwise distorted.
I plan to go again--this time WITH the chronograph and find out the mach number of these birds.
Hot rounds are new for me.  This IS a hot round, maybe too hot.  I'll find out out more Tues and will have a few more to try out on a target.
I may zing a couple out of my 75B to see the speed difference in the longer bbl.  (Gun abuse!)

I usually have enough factory ammo to keep my carry mags full. But I only use them for practice when I want to "refresh" my supply. When I load my own SD bullets I duplicate the 180gr. FBI spec load. 6.8 Power Pistol puts me there. (980 fps) I figure if I ever have to defend my use of deadly force w/ home rolled it might be helpful to be able to show literature pointing me to the FBI's own load. That's the case whether it's my .40 or a .357 six shooter. I haven't carried a .357 for a long time but there's no shortage of data on the 125 gr. JHP.
