Magazine brake problems in Compact
« on: May 19, 2012, 07:13:58 PM »
I was doing a CGW trigger kit...and began to run into problems getting that bleep magazine brake back in. Couldn't get it, the spring, and the plug arranged in such a way that it would all go together right. In the course of my efforts, I ended up somehow bending the magazine brake pin. XD

Can I just run it without the mag brake? And if not, how can I make it easier getting everything together? I can't seem to get the bottom lip of the magazine brake tucked into the main spring plug properly.

ice this is a common problem!on my p-01 i cut about 1/2 of the tab sticking  out the bottom off.it goes in alot better and i can install the brake after the main spring is in place.the tab curve i beleave keeps the spring from rattling, once i shortened mine it did rattle.to prevent that all you do is have to put a piece of tape or a small piece of string on the bottom on each side of the tab so it sets in the slot tighter.it is a dream to install once the tab is shortened!

Cut the "curl" off the mag brake/guide.  I leave a "tab" of about 3/16" of a inch.  This way you can fully install the hammer spring plug, THEN install the mag brake.

The brake pin is very soft.  You can make one from a drill bit (.086-.084") and be a lot better off.  I keep some .086" hardened drill rod on hand to make a replacement pin with.  Much, much better.

Is there a specific size drill bit I could scavenge? Or should I just order some drill rod? Might as well fix it right, rather than spending a bunch on another pin that I will screw up.

What is the problem with the softer pin David?

I've only had mine out once, but I didn't see any wear on it

Painter,

It's not an issue at all.  If you whack it at an angle and it's in a little bit of a bind, it will bend easily.

Thanks for the clarification David.

Now I know how to fix the problem if I have one.
