Big-time problem PCR
« on: January 22, 2002, 09:34:05 PM »
Well, I went down in flames today when a brother officer picked up his new PCR from the shop.
Went out to the range to try it out. The pcr would not function properly! This was a new gun!
whenever the trigger was pulled, the hammer fell to half-cock instead of all the way. This would happen when fired(attempted) in the dbl action mode. The weapon would only fire in the single action mode.
I broke down the pcr but could not figure out what was wrong with the dbl action hammer-fall. Everything looked identical to my pcr. The decock lever seemed to function correctly.
Further, when I pull the trigger dbl action and did not release it immediately, I found that if I release the trigger about an 1/8" forward, there would be an audible "click", squeezing the trigger back again(not allowing it to go fully forward to reset) would result in the hammer falling from the safety notch to the firing pin.
Needless to say, I lost a cz convert. He is going to return the pcr for a refund and get a springfield xd instead.
Any ideas on what the problem is or how it could had been fixed other than a ship back to cz-usa?
This is the 1st "problem cz" that I have came across in person. It also means I guess that when they   supply a test target, they fire all shots from single action as it would not had left the factory if they had tried to fire the 1st round dbl action. I understand that from time to time a "bad" one can get out from any gun maker. But this one hits too close to home for me and counter-acts all of my cz bragging that I have been doing at my small dept which for now will still have only one cz shooter----me. This has also caused me to loose confidence in my own pcr. The thought of pulling the trigger and having it fall to the safety notch instead of firing is not a confidence builder. For now, the cz85 will remain top gun with me.

I know what you mean, because I am always the lone CZ guy. Keep pluggin' - that's what I am doing.

I definately will keep pluggin' with my cz85. That is the duty auto that has never given me any reason to feel insecure. Now if cz would import a pcr lightweight with ambi safety as an alternative to the decocker!
Seems like these decockers are either too dangerous or too safe. The original ruger p85 had a problem with the weapon firing when decocked--hince the p85 mkII. One sig shooter locally also had to send back a sig p228 that discharged when decocked. He has a new place to hang a picture in his living room. He is still waiting to hear back on that one. Now a decocker that won't fire. The fancier the plumbing, the easier to gum up the works.
I just knew that a decocker cz would be great for the leo------now I'm wondering.

I cant say its a sear only problem as it fired on s/a correctly...possibly a prob with the mechanism between the trigger and sear...the only criteria is d/a failure...it has to be at least somewhat trigger related...sorry to hear about things like this...but things happen.  My compact didnt make me happy for a while...but I fixed it and love it now....
Shoot well

Be sure to call CZ USA and tell Marty. he should know about this, esp if it could be used for
duty or off-duty. More chances of actual use than normal CCw..it think.

I'm wondering the same thing????????????? the PCR is usually 100% from the box.
very, very few probs with that model.

check your email.

The pcr is back from cz and appears to be ok. The sear was replaced. Round II this weekend for this weapon.
No charge on the repairs.

Is your brother officer going to give it another chance? Like the others have said, I have never heard of any problems with the PCR but everything turns out a lemon once in a while.

How long did it take from the time you sent in the gun until you got it back?
