cz 83 vs. cz 75 compact pcr
« on: February 22, 2002, 08:47:06 AM »
I am looking for a new concealed carry gun.  I am considering the pcr and the cz 83 in 9mm makarov.  Can anyone give me an opinion as to which one is better?  This will also be my first cz firearm.  Thank you

I love my Compact. It is a great shootin' iron. I have fired the CZ83 in .380, and was not AS impressed as I am with the Compact. Is there a range you can rent one of each? I have no difficulty hiding my Compact, so size ain't a consideration, and the full size 15 round mags fit/function too. Try them both, if you can, but I would go with a PCR. and am going to get one for my Wife this year!

I honestly have carried my Compact and my 83 for over 3 months.  They both carry differently and have different purposes.  If I had to choose one as a primary carry..I would have to take the PCR with the more potent ammo.  The 83 is one of the sweetest shooters I own...bar none.  But mine is a .380 and even with Hi Caps and being pretty good with it, I may be out gunned when I can least afford it.  With my Compact...I dont feel outgunned in the slightest.  Its a rough choice..the 83 really is more concealable...even if they are close dimensionally....It just carries much better.  I dont know if I helped you out or not....The 83 is an awesome gun...but for a primary carry...the PCR would be hard to beat.
Shoot well

I decided to go with the CZ 83 in 9mm makarov.  I got to fire a CZ 83 in .380 and a CZ 75 compact both.  I liked the CZ 83 much better.  It just felt natural to grip.  Thank you for the opinions.  I will probably buy a CZ 75 in the near future also.  I am really impressed with CZ's craftmanship.

Hi, you made the Proper choice..and i know you will love the '83 as much as we do.

Then you will want a bigger gun.

in .380 the CZ83 vs the Compact, if you needed small, then the '83.

The 9mm Mak is twofold.

Cheaper ammo than the .380 or 9mm Para. Wolf and others, even my SPEER/CCI
make MAK ammo.

Last of a breed: The 9mm Maks here now are the last CZ Maks.

I'm considering a barrel swap to 9mm Mak. Went to buy some .380 and all
they had was CCI Mak ammo!

One interesting note. Guys tell me."i'll not shoot any Wolf or steel cased ammo
like Barnual in my CZS, but will in my Mak '83.

Hmm i guess they think a .380 CZ83 and a 9mm Mak '83 are different??

I just think they are great pistols for the price. For plinking or secondary
arm, they are ideal.

I've never owned a compact, as i like full length CZs, but i will soon 'Have' to
buy a Compact model...at the expense of selling one of my other CZs.

The 97B is still the "spotlight" gun at CZF now. I've decided that the Compact line
is next.

How is this?  I just found out I am getting a cz83 satin nickle in Mak...and I have my Compact.  Now, admittedly I am getting rid of my fav gun of all time...my .380 83 to get this new addition...but think its an upgrade in ammo and a down grade in ammo costs......very cool.  Shoot well
