Newbie Buys CZ75 Compact- Have Questions!
« on: January 24, 2002, 09:59:28 PM »
Hello all.  I recently bought a Compact at a gunshow.  I am a (big-time) handgun newbie (Ruger .22 is my only other) and I have some questions.
Thanks in advance for any help!

First, the weapon: CZ-75 Compact.  1993 production, wood grips, a single 13rd mag, box, papers, target.  Action Arms import.  Excellent condition with just a couple spots of wear.

Questions:

#1 What kind of accuracy can I expect?  I have been shooting it at 50' and so far about 5" is as good as I can do.  :(

#2 How do Compacts compare to the regular CZ-75?  Advantages, dissadvantages? (besides the ease of carry)

#3 What kind of ammo (surplus if possible) works well?

#4 What is the price range for this piece?  I've never seen another like it (locally).

#5 Will it take standard CZ-75 mags?  Also, where can I get mags cheap (10rds are okay).

Thanks for any help!!!

Mike

Hey Penguin....welcome to ze forum....Here goes...
Your Compact is one of the earlier ones...has a 2 pc recoil spring, which Is good..nice gun.  They come with the wood grips, etc...

Its as accurate as you are...If I bench rest mine at 75 ft it will group around 3" with great ammo, S&B Fiochi magtech..etc. Off hand at 50' I can group 4-5" with no prob..
the gun isnt a mk 1 or mk 2...some do shoot as well.
It will compare as well as a full size, most of the time regarding accuracy..

The compact is a full size with 20mm taken of the slide/barrel and 10mm off of the grip and there is one less barrel locking lug.

Any ammo works well, I shoot Win Whitebox and its ok...cant beat the price...it may not like 147 gr "bigmouth" JHP's....

A good price for your gun...clean, 1 hi cap (worth a fortune)...
300-350$ IMO....thats pretty close. even 375$ would be good.

The full size mags will work just fine...they just hang out the bottom the 10mm that is gone from the grip housing...10 rnd
mags for the Compact can probably be found at CZUSA, HERE...post a wtb want to buy, on the classifieds...heck you might talk me out of one of mine.

P.S. If you replace your mag spring with a Wolff, It will increase your capacity.......

Shoot well, hope this helped and hey, join our little gang if you want....cant hurt, right?.....let us know how you like it...

Penguin, I have had my Compact for a little while, and I can offhand 5" groups at 25 yards half the time, so I believe the gun has great accuracy potential. You lucky dog to get a hi-cap mag! I have ten rounders, and one full size 15 rounder that sticks out a little way, but works fine.
Enjoy - you have a fine piece of machinery!

Penguin. Did you happen to pick that compact up at the gunshow in Centralia last weekend?

I picked the weapon up in Waterville, Maine.  I paid $360.  That is probably a bit high but it was the only CZ (besides a 7.65mm) in the show and the seller knew it.

I figure it would cost at least $400 to get one here from away (after shipping and transfer fees) so I don't feel too bad about spending the $$.

Penguin,Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked was that I saw a like new satin nickle compact at the show in Centralia, WA last weekend. Had box and one mag. The table owner was asking $425 firm. It was the first compact I have seen at a show in quite some time. Another table had a nib CZ75B military (which somehow found its way home with me) can't have too many spares is my way of thinking. Regards

I paid $350 for mine, and still think I got a good deal - I'dve paid $50 more if I'd had too - good thing Joe didn't know that!

I'm going to make you guys green with envy.  Bought a ANIB Compact, also an AA import, with box, papers, target, all accessories, one high cap mag, wood grips for $285.  Have left word to funnel all further such CZ into a spot which I will check with regularity until the savings and 403b run out of funds.

You guys always have the greaaaaaat deals, make one envious.  My NIB PCR cost me $452 out the door and did not know it has to have a target in the box.  For now it looks like a high price to pay but definitely not for an all rounder pistol.  What matters now is that am satisfied with how it handles and range performance so far.

Well, the PCR we had at the range went for a little over $500, if that makes you feel better. Looked up that bible verse - don't forget the one after it!
