Safety malfunction?
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:37:38 PM »
So I have had my magnificent 97B for just over 2 months now. Got the custom hammer/trigger job and had the FPB removed - it shoots like a dream! Such a simple, smooth, and sexy weapon.

Now, I know there is a feature on the 97 whereby the gun will fire even if the safety is engaged while the hammer is down (DA) - so you can carry hammer down and not have to worry about the safety when you draw and need to fire.

However, even in SA with the hammer cocked the safety is not preventing the trigger from dropping the hammer and firing my weapon. This does NOT seem intentional like the other feature. Coupled with the removed FPB that leaves me with zero mechanical safeties in effect.

Wondering if there is something I can check when I disassemble my 97 to confirm the issue and possibly fix it myself, or if I must take more advanced measures.

Thanks all!

Who did you have do the work? You will likely need to have that person check their work. The mechanical safety was obviously disabled when the work was performed on the hammer/trigger. Hopefully your smith can fix it otherwise you will likely need to send it back to CZ or to one of the good CZ smiths on the forum. I'm sure one of them will chime in here soon.

either something has changed since the work was done or not done correctly when the work was done. That needs to be fixed. the safety is not blocking the sear properly and that is not a safe situation for you.

Thanks for the remarks so far.

I'll try to get some media up soon for review, hopefully today but definitely before the weekend is up.
I haven't fiddled with the action internals - I've just done the basic breakdown to clean it up.

Jazzek,

Replacing the sear is mandatory in your situation.  It is possible the manual safety pad has been modified as well (which I don't personally like to do).  It appears your sear/manual safety pad clearance was not properly fitted when the comp hammer was installed.  You only have a few thousanths to work in when doing this.  It happens, I've done it before.
