Made it to the range with the new VZ=58
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:00:25 PM »
Well I was able to sneak out for a while this afternoon to shoot the new VZ-58. I also brought along a new M&P 15 to shoot as well and I have to say that I was actually a better shot with the VZ due to the sights. I plan to put a scope on the M&P so I guess in the long run it doesn't really matter if I like the factory folding sights on it. The VZ ran without a hick up the trigger also seemed to have a better and shorter reset at least to me. The only issues I found was that since the factory folder is so short I banged my nose a couple of times while firing so good thing I have the Mako one ready to go & everyone was right when they said the VZ-58 will heat up quickly after a mag and a half the handguard was getting too hot to hold so I spent the rest of the time shooting the VZ holding onto the magazine. I can see once I get the Bonesteel handgusrd in place I may need to invest in some type of  fore grip to keep my paws away from that hot handguard and I imagine it woudl be as bad if not worse with the aluminum one.

Other than that I had a blast and I can see this is one rifle (I'm mostly a pistol guy) that's going to get a LOT or range time. I may even considerbuying another one down the road some time.

Yea I like this one so much I'm now considering getting a fixed stock in the old military furniture and just leaving that one the way it is. I really like the classic non-tacticool look to them but I'm considering using this in some 3 gun matches so I'll need to do a few upgrades to make it a little more competitive in a field of AR's. I still couldn't get over how the old Comm Block sights were better than the Magpul flip ups on my M&P 15 or I guess I should say they seemed more accurate and aimed like my pistol sights.

If you get the Bonesteel guards, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that the aluminum conducts the heat out and away and doesn't heat up the guard nearly as much. It must be the increased air flow around the barrel and not trapping as many of the gases out of the gas piston chamber.
Liberty, it starts with self ownership. You own you. Everyone owns themself. The essence of freedom and liberty is to allow everyone to pursue THEIR idea of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness. In doing so, they may not violate your right to the same goals. Thus All crime is property crime.

That's one thing i noticed about my Vz.58. you just point it and the sights just seem to be right on target. I like that mine came with the fully shrouded front sight post. Mabe that's a factor, i don't know.

Interesting point. But my gun looks so good the way it is.  ;D
