Scope for CZ527 .22 Hornet
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:56:21 AM »
I have a CZ 527 in 22 Hornet. Currently I have an older 2x8 Tasco scope on it but it is starting to have focus problems. What would members recommend for it. I was thinking of a Tasco Varmint in 6x24 but think this would be overkill in the Hornet, besides I'd like to keep within the rifle being somewhat compact. Thanks

3x9x40 region would be my choice     perhaps a leopold-redfield      theres no limit to the amount cash can be spent    what ever you choose especialy in the higher mags check the bolt handle clears it.

4.5x14x40 Nikon would be a good choice.

Cherokee,

What is the budget of your scope?  Is your current scope a 1" or 30mm tube diameter?  The reason I ask is if you currently have a 1" scope, you may not want to purchase new rings.

The recommendation of the new Redfield scopes is a good one for a lower priced optic.  The Revolution line is made in America in the same factory, on the same equipment, by the same employees who make all the Leupold scopes.  The Revenge series of scopes are assembled in the Phillipines, but are of no less quality.  All Redfield scopes carry a FULL Lifetime warranty.  If you ever decide to sell the scope, it fully transfers over to the new owner.  No warranty cards, no questions asked, no time limits.

You mentioned that you have an older Tasco scope on the rifle.  You should be warned that the newer Tasco scopes are NOT the quality scope that the older Tasco were.

If you're looking for compactness and inexpensive, the Redfield Revenge 2-7x34 runs about $140, and 3-9x40 runs $160.  This is quite a bit more expensive than the Tasco Varmint scope you were looking at, but it is a scope that you will have for life.  If it ever has focus problems like your Tasco currently is, they will repair or replace it for free.  Plus the optics between the two aren't even comparable.  The Redfield is in another category all together.

Weaver 6x? Nice image, better image than the variables, thin wire subtends 9.9mm (call it 10mm).
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit' at a longer range.

jameslovesjammie, I have the rings factory rings that came with the rifle, 1". I'll have to look into the Redfield scopes. The 3x9 sounds like it would be a nice one, not too big and enough power for the .22 Hornet, Thanks. I really Love this rifle, Great trigger! The only thing that bothers me is how loose the magazine seems to be. I checked and the retaining spring and latch are installed properly but just doesn't seem to really "snap" in like most rifle mags I'm familer with.

What are you using it for and what ranges?

If you are target shooting...  I have recently had very good luck with the Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x fixed.  It clears the bolt handle just fine and doesn't hit anything with the standard rings that come with the rifle....

If you are hunting - I would go with a fixed 4 or fixed 6 power scope.... Very light, few moving parts to break....

For longer range varmints... While I am suspicious of anything with the Bushnell name on it... I would use my Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x fixed, or get into a high quality fixed 10 or 12 power scope....

Personally, I can't recommend cheap scopes...  I have shot too many of them loose internally...  I am always worried that Bushnell will be out of whack every time I take it out to the range (Bad history with Bushnell)... because they never go out of whack when it doesn't matter.... and it's hard to track down the scope is the issue....

Anyway - very good luck with everything from Leupold, Zeiss, Burris, and Sightron.... just pick one that will fit in the supplied rings or you add about $80.00 to the cost of scoping the rifle...

Thanks

cherokee5425;  I have been shooting a CZ AMERICAN  22 HORNET for a several years and I agree with you they are great rifles, my favorites.  I am getting old and my eyes are not what they once were so I put a 6-24X40 AO  4200 Elite Bushnell on mine and did not have any clearence problems at all. I like this combination. I use this rifle hunt varmints and small game, and I use it as a walking around rifle with a shooting stick. I hope you enjoy your CZ 22 HORNET as much as I do mine.   ken
