Went and tried my 40 rounds (wish I made more)this morning.  All rounds fed, went bang and ejected as they should have.  Recoil is different between 3.6 gr and 4.2 gr.  The 3.6 gr cases dropped at my feet and the 4.2's didn't go that much further.  The 3.6 and 3.8 gr shot 3" groups and the 4.0 and 4.2 expanded out to 4".  I'm usually good for 2" to 2 1/2" groups at 10 yds with factory ammo.  After todays shooting I think I will spend a little time working in the 3.7 gn to 3.9 gn range for a while.  Maybe play with the OAL just a touch.  Between the new reloading experience and shooting, developing and printing film and a little yard work I'm struggling to find time for that job thing I expected to preform 5 days in a row!  Next range day won't be here soon enough, Saturday at best but most likely Sunday.
OK, I just have to ask, maybe someone would chime in here. I am also new to reloading (about 1200 rounds to date ) also loading Barry's 124 RN (not the HB), and using 231, Lyman's list max load for a 125 jacketed HP at 4.4, So I am asking. is 4.9 considered still a safe range ? I stopped at 4.4 as it was not as accurate as 4.2.

There's 3 parts to every load: the powder weight, the bullet weight/type, and the OAL. Without an OAL we can't answer your question.
In God we trust; On 'Starting Load' we rely.

I'm using 1.138, Lyman's list 1.075 as min.
