federal vs Winchester gun primer vs CCI,

need some advise. I'm using CCi primer on my CZ shadow, but my friend told me Federal primer is the best primer, it's because he said it gives extra velocity and add extra PF. is that true? My friend told me you can reduce 1 to 1.5grains of powder charged, and still your PF/Power Factor is still in Minor load(IPSC). How about Winchester primer?  Here in the Philippines, Federal primer is hard to find. I'm planning to try Winchester & try to Chrono if it also add extra PF.

1 to 1.5g of powder going from CCI to Federal.....I call BS on that one.

I use only Federal primers on ly Federal. But I can not believe that . They are softer and have no short strikes or FTF or double taps needed. Are 100% reliable is why I use them. The using less powder someone will have to prove that to me because I don't buy it!

I've never noticed a huge difference in velocity going from one brand of primer to another with a "standard for cartridge" load.  Maximum powder charges would be a different matter.

Federal are my favorite primer.  They have a softer cup than other primers, which makes them easier to ignite.  This makes them really handy in guns that have reduced trigger pull weights.  They are ESSENTIAL in my tuned revolvers. 

If you are using CCI and have never had a failure to fire, there is no real reason to switch.  Winchester makes a good primer as well.  If Federal are hard to find and more expensive, you will not gain anything by switching to them.  If you decide to drastically reduce your trigger pull weight, then that is a different story.

Yes.  CCI are the hardest US manufactured primers by far.

I use Winchester, Magtech, or Federal Primers, and have not needed to adjust powder charges between them.  Average Velocities have been the same.

I agree with all the above. I've used Winchester, CCI, Remington, and Federal... all interchangeably with no noticeable change in PF. Certainly not 1 grain's worth.

I use a lot of Federal, mainly because they ignite easier, and that's the only reason.

Now maybe your friend got a hold of some small pistol magnum primers, which might have that effect. But magnum small pistol primers can be hard to find too.

Like said above, in light to mid-range loads, reputable SPP primer differences make no significant changes in speed.
Friends who load Major PF 9mm Luger loads , DO see a measurable difference using Magnum primers.  One told me the Fed 100 spp also showed a small increase in speed over some others he tried.
