CZ 550 varmit kevlar .308 Shorten barrel ?
« on: January 07, 2013, 05:24:16 PM »
I'm looking to get a CZ 550 varmit kevlar .308. My question is can you shorten the barrel to 18"-20" ? I'm looking to emulate the Urban counter sniper rifle

No reason that you couldn't.

I've thought about doing the same. I have one currently and I'd like to get it threaded for a suppressor. I figured if I do that, I'll get it shortened a bit while I'm at it.

This is good idea. While you shorten the barrel, get it threaded too, and a good match crown.
Life is too short to waste on a bad trigger pull

The shorter it is, the stiffer it will be, so why not go down to 16"? Losing the extra barrel length can make it a tack driver at the ranges most people shoot at, since barrel deflection is tied directly to length.

I'm in the same process. I'm wondering how much 4 " Varmint barrel would weight? I'm thinking about the "center mass point" change, if I cut down the barrel by 4" and put a Ase Utra SL5 silencer (4" long) on it. Thus the length stays the same, but what about the weight?
