safety on CZ75 Shadow
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:41:00 PM »
I bought a 75 Shadow DA/SA SDP from your shop two weeks ago.  First, thank you for a wonderful gun that is more accurate than I am.  While doing dry-fire drills I noticed an issue that I wanted to ask you about.  With the hammer fully cocked and safety on everything is normal.  But if the hammer is fully down or at half-cock with the safety on, I can still pull the trigger and the normal double action operation will still occur including the hammer falling and activating the firing pin.  To test it, I put a primed brass in the chamber, lowered the hammer, engaged the safety, and then pulled the trigger to see if the gun would fire and it did.  Is this normal?  This being my first CZ I am still learning.

Thanks for your help,
Jay

I had the same question back in july when I ordered my 75 Shadow T.  I talked to Staurt and he said it is a normal thing due to the way the hammer/sear/safety engagement is with the trigger job.  While he said it was normal, he suggested that no long operate the gun that way.  Do not have the hammer down and safety on and pull the trigger and fire the gun.

thanks for the info, I wasnt planning on (mis)using it in that manner, I did it the one time with the primed brass (so i could experiment at home rather than going to the range for one trigger pull) to see if it would fire or not so I would definitively know the characteristics/limitations of the gun, before the test I had noticed that the hammer/trigger were functioning normally from DA even with the safety on, I had just reloaded it with HD ammo and then manually decocked it after a day of USPSA when I noticed it.

My main reason for asking was to determine whether or not to leave the safety on when the hammer is down.  With this info, I will only be using the safety when/if I elect to carry cocked and locked.  The safety will remain in the off position otherwise.

Heat - Again, thank you for relaying the info you received from Stuart.  The trigger job theory makes perfect sense.
