Pulling back hammer before racking?

I'm in a discussion on another board about thumbing back the hammer before racking.  Gentleman says it's harmful as you could slip, letting the hammer drop on the sear and causing damage.  He pointed out the slide normally eases the hammer onto the sear.

I tried this on my P01.  There isn't much movement to sear engagement, seems pretty beefy.  Thiughts?

The hammer drops onto the firing pin and if your finger is not on the trigger, it will be stopped by the firing pin interrupt if your gun has one. 
The hammer hooks engage the sear.

I do it sometimes on my P-07 when I have the safety on it so that the safety is already engaged when I chamber a round.

To refine the question, the guy (a 1911 tuner) said if you pull the hammer back all the way and release onto the sear, it will damage the sear and hammer hooks.
