The British army was being issued the sig 226 to replace the Browning. Because of all of the cuts in spending the MOD has to contend with I'm sure the Glock made them a deal they could not refuse. Plus armed police units in the UK use the Glock.

Interesting I guess, but I can't help but think of some quote I remember from somewhere, "pistols don't win wars."
But are really popular with those that are caught in the mix and that is what they were issued.

True, but they can be very decisive in CQB encounters where maneuverability in tight confines is a desirable feature.
There is no "one size fits all" scenarios firearm, so it is important to be able to choose between a good sidearm and longarm.
