I need info on a WWII CZ
« on: April 30, 2005, 04:20:34 AM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recently purchased a WWII era CA from my great uncle, as such I am a novice when it comes to this type of pistol. My questions are: How do I determine what ammunition is needed, what is the value of the pistol, how is the value effected since he had the pistol nickle plated in 1951 after buying the gun, and what do the markings mean that are on the pistol. The left side of the slide has engraved CESKA ZEBROJOVKA AKC.SPOL.V PRAZE. On the left side just above the trigger card is a stamp with 41 underneath it (Model year?). The chamber carriage has the same stamp with the letter T underneath it. The mathching serial numbers are 241752. I assume the first part of the engraving is the Czech Weapons Factory with the manufacuring location listed afterwards. I am not sure what this part of the engraving means.

According to my uncle, he picked it up in 1945 and he shot 32 shorts with no problems. However, he also said this pistol was an 8.04 or he thought a 9mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ray

CZ made a number of guns in the .32 calibre, but NONE in 9mm prior to the 70s, that I know of.  Others in this section, now that I've moved the message, should be able to help.

Does it look like this?  If so, its a CZ-27.  And its 7.62 mm. After the Germans invaded Czechoslovakia during WWII, they used the guns in their military, and you'll find them with Waffenampt/acceptance marks.

It would have had some collector value if in good shape, but when your great uncle had it  nickel plated, any collectibility for this particular gun went out the window.  (That's a no-no for collectible guns.)  It should shoot standard .32 ACP, I think.

It's likely this:
www.gunsworld.com/cz/cz192627_us.html
It's a 7.65mm (.32 ACP)

Some 9s were made early on...

9x17/.380 ACP of course.

The Nazi occupation 26s are not as tight in my experience.  The pre and post war 26s are very accurate and outshoot the 70s for sure.

I appreciate both responses.  I now believe that this is a CZ 1938 pistol.  According to the Gun's World web site, this is a 9mm Browning Short (380 Auto).  It is a little different than the picture of the 27 pictured in the previous posting.  I have tried attaching a picture.  Thanks for your help.  Any additional thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Ray

That means your relative didn't shoot .32 shorts in it; he shot .38 shorts.  The .32s wouldn't work.

I think you are absolutely right.  I am trying to attach a picture again, but not having much luck.

You can't attach pictures.  Check the FAQ area (at the very top) for what you've got to do to make pictures appear.

I spend a little and have a picture site for my shots.  www.photobucket.com.  Its free for a small number of photos, and pretty inexpensive for more/bigger shots.
