What's the difference in "A" and "B" frames?
« on: September 23, 2013, 10:34:01 AM »
A couple of months ago, I bought a new P-07 at a local gun store. I posted that the safety parts were not in the box and CZUSA quickly sent them to me. The gun has functioned flawlessly. I bought the gun before reading about all the "A" frame problems. What is the difference between the "A" frame and the "B" frame? My gun is serial number A818xxx. It has a 10 before the crest, I am assuming that means a 2010 build date. I have read that the "B" frames have a lanyard attachment, and the "A" frames do not. Is that how you tell the difference? My frame has the lanyard attachment. The gun also does not have the captured recoil spring. Could CZUSA be putting the older slide assemblies on the newer frames? I should also note that it is a 9mm. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

From what I have read, the changes in the P-07 for frame bulges where somewhere near the end of the "A" series.  CZ-USA has stated that there isn't a specific cut over for the "B" series.  It's just that they exhausted the "A" serial numbers and moved onto "B".

From what I have seen, all P-07s have had the lanyard attachment.

Yes, the "10" means 2010.

You might have a late model "A" series that doesn't have the frame bulge, even then, not all the "A" series did have the issue.
As for the recoil assemblies, I have had both captured and non-captured, not didn't really notice a difference.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, BGlas. As to the lanyard attachment, The P-07 in the pic at the top of this forum doesn't seem to have one. Maybe the angle or maybe it was removed. Either way, was just wondering. Am I also to understand that there were no changes in the "A" to "B" switch? If no changes were made, what's the difference in "A" and "B" guns? Why do the "A" guns keep getting a bad rap? Sorry for so many questions, just want to make sure I don't have a problem waiting to happen.

CZ is constantly making changes in the P-07, most are pretty subtle, like the recoil spring/rod.
The "A" series got a bad rap for the frame bulge and the .40 versions had some issues with the feed ramps.
From what I have read, it was more of the .40 that had issues than 9mm.

It looks like there was a change to the frames somewhere around the end of the "A" series.  I suspect that "B" series was recommended as having the fix as all "B" should have it and no one seems to know when it started at the tail end of "A" series.

Check out some of the threads related to the frame bulge and compare your P-07.
If you feel yours is developing a bulge, contact CZ-USA (excellent customer service) with pictures and get their opinion.
If they feel that it is an issue, they will likely send you a replacement for free (has happened to several members on this forum).

You can remove the lanyard ring and replace it with a flat plug (or grind it off yourself) if you want.

I won't worry too much about it, shoot and enjoy :-)

BGlas, Thanks for all the info. I took it back apart and looked at the trouble area. It doesn't look bulged that much, but it does look like It is separating from the metal. (don't know all the part names). There is a gap between the metal and the polymer (unlike the other side). And it flexes very easy. I will post some pictures, when I can. Thanks again for the help.
