What's the poop on Powder Valley ??
« on: November 20, 2013, 08:33:11 PM »
PV used to the the gold standard for reloading supplies, but they haven't had dink in almost a year. Even inconsistent shops like Gamaliel and Wideners have more stuff more often. Are they simply filling back orders with the stuff that does come in, or they just not getting anything ?

Last year they moved from Retailer to Distributor status. They should be getting supplies first, not last.

Anybody know?

PV has a ton of loading components coming in all the time and going out just added fast.
As soon as primers, for example, show up, reports start appearing on the gun boards and in an hour or two they will be out of stock again.
I recently bought bullets, Federal and Winchester primers, HP 38 and VV N320 powder in good quality by either getting an email notice from one of the online stores I use or by regularly visiting the websites.
The stuff is out there now, you just have to work to find it and be ready to buy instantly.

This past Spring --Apr I think--- they were still taking back orders.  I still have one for 5K Fed SPPs but no joy.  I suspect the really big back orders will take a long time to fill.

Reminds me of the comp.-popular Zero Bullets.  Where have they been since "last year"?!

My last order from Powder Valley was in April 2012.  I ordered 14 pounds of powder in 6 different variants and 10,000 primers in two types.  EVERYTHING was in stock.  I wanted to get a decent order in before BHO was re-elected.  In November, there was a pretty good run on inventory, but not as bad as 2008.  Then Sandy Hook happened...

Powder Valley has some Zero bullets in 9mm right now.

I bought some primers from them last month. You have to check at least daily to catch stuff in stock.

I have PVI "Liked" on Facebook.  They get stuff in regularly and post on Facebook, and it shows up in my "newsfeed".  I check Facebook pretty regularly throughout the day, and often, between the time they post and the time I see it, the stuff is already gone.  I think because PVI is so many people's preferred online retailer that nothing in high demand lasts more than an hour or two.

I don't order from PV any more. When they got a huge shipment of primers in and sent out an advanced notice email, I ordered according to their protocol (no more than 10K primers of each type). 2 weeks later, nothing...not even an email, other than my original invoice for the order. Finally got in touch with them and got "oh, that order was never placed, we don't have it in our system anymore"....OK, how can an order be "never placed" AND "not be in the system anymore" with a valid order number?

Pissed me off, so I started sending more of my business to Natchezs and Wideners. Haven't had a single issue with either one of them and got my stuff in a hurry. Didn't have any influence on my handgun bullet orders though, I buy Bayou Bullets and just pick them up on my way home when I come in from offshore.

Anybody know?

Received an order from them a couple weeks ago. I do everything through email with them & have for the last 10 or 15 years. No complaints here.

I sure remember.  Mine is post #9:  saying I really doubt it would be over in 2013 and likely would "never" return to "normal"..
