Finally found a holster for my baby
« on: October 18, 2014, 11:27:39 PM »
First let me introduce you to my little baby. This is my Ruger SRH 9 1/2" .44 mag, with a Bushnell Trophy XLT 2 x 6.

I've owned it for 2 years and  is what I use for deer and elk. (If I ever find elk, but that's a whole other story[emoji2])
I have been searching for a good leather chest holster that protects the scope. After using both an uncle Mikes and Bianchi nylon bandolier holsters  with straps that stretched out and dug into my shoulder, I knew I needed to go with leather.

This is a very nice chest holster made by Wes Daems at 7x leather in Ennis MT. I just got it today and have been wearing it around most of the afternoon. So far it is already more comfortable than any of my other holsters for this gun have been.
The season starts Nov. 1st so I've got a little while to get used to it. Once I get it out into the field for the season I'll try to post back how it worked out. As of now I have no doubts about how this will hold up.
It's molded to my pistol perfectly. He didn't have a SRH with the 9 1/2" but he did have one with 7 1/2". As luck would have it he also had the exact same scope. Since he had no way of knowing where my scope set he told me I might have to stretch it a little. When I received it I grabbed my pistol, put it in and she fit like it was formed right right to her.
He warranties his work for life, cartridge slide and ear plug case included.
He was kinda hard to get ahold of at times  (but great to talk with) and took a little while to make it, (ordered sometime in May) but I didn't pay up front, (only once he called and said it was ready) and he delivered within a day or so as he had promised.

That is one heck of a rig and one heck of a pistol! Glad to hear it is working out for you. When you bag something with it i would love to see a pic. Handgun hunting is for lack of a better word, Bad***.

Thanks Tok. So far luck has not been on my side. I did get a doe last year but alas it was about 200 yards. To far for me. Someone more experienced yes, but not me. Ended up using my brothers rifle to bag her.
I've learned it is a lot harder to shoot a scoped handgun than a scoped rifle[emoji57].
She's sighted in at 100 yards. That's my max. She'll shoot farther, but I've got to put more rounds down range first. At almost a buck a round it gets spendy.  Where I hunt most of the time I won't have to worry about the long shots, but when you get out of the mountains you can see a long ways. I've got a reloader now and still need to get some more stuff. I hope to get set up and start reloading this winter.

Dang! Hair on my chest just grew an inch looking at that setup!

Use to carry in an uncle mikes rig which is probably why I never saw anything. Deer and bear were too embarrassed to be seen anywhere near me. Think you got it in the bag now.

LMAO AZ. I hope it works. Between this and my pack it's a little weight. In most of the terrain I hunt in it is a lot nicer than packing my rifle tho. Leaves both hands free to go over or under windfall and such.
Instead of a cross over like a bandolier, it's more of a tanker style. I'm right handed and it rides on my left shoulder. Sinch the mid-section snug and I don't feel near as much weight on the shoulder like before. I think it'll even out the weight better.
I've been playing with it and it's very versatile. I can carry it in the middle of my chest or almost as a shoulder holster.

Just an update....  Just got back from 8 days of hunting. Never could find what I was hunting[emoji22]always the wrong place at the wrong time.
Anyways, just wanted to report back on the holster. Wore it on average 8-10 hours each day. I could not believe how comfortable it was. Never once dug into my shoulder. Even with my pack on all day it never once got uncomfortable. The straps are very sturdy, but at the same time soft. Hung it to dry each day and they never stretched out or got hard.
Never had any issues at all. I had full mobility, and never worried about my pistol falling out or not being secured.
So IMHO, if you're in the market for a great hunting holster this is it.

Sorry to hear you were unable to find what you were looking for, maybe next time. At least you were able to look good with that beast strapped across your chest. ;D

Thank you for the update.
