1) The VZ-58 is not on the Maryland State Police regulated firearms list. This means that it trades here as a regular long gun, and is not subject to Maryland's enhanced background check and waiting period. The non-HBAR AR-15s and AK-47s, etc. are put through the same "Brady Act" paperwork and waiting period as a handgun.
Even though not classified as a regulated "assault weapon" here in the "Free State", one still needs to fill out a Form 4473 and pass the NICS like any other rifle or shotgun. Private sales between MD residents can go face to face. As an out-of-state seller, you'll need to ship to an FFL in Maryland for transfer to your buyer. Part of the FFL's responsibility will be to ensure the transfer takes place within the law.
2) Possession of magazines greater than 20 rounds is perfectly legal in MD, it's just the transfer that is restricted. One cannot receive a 20+ round magazine while in MD, but it is quite common for us to buy them legally out of state, and legally bring our property back into the state with us. I have a gazillion 30 round AR & AK mags and they're all legal. This means that you cannot ship the VZ-58 magazines directly to the MD buyer if their capacity exceeds 20 rounds. The MD buyer may have a friend or relative who lives out of state who can receive them for him, which is legal to do and he can legally take possession of them outside MD state boundaries.
3) Your buyer should be able to line up an FFL for you to ship to. Contrary to the requirements of law, some FFLs do not want to receive firearms from private parties, "due to liability" that they perceive if the firearm was stolen, etc.. This is wrong and assinine, since they can just as easily receive a stolen firearm that was shipped through another FFL, and it just adds unnecessary expense at the shipper's end. Simply find another receiving FFL who will accept shipment from a private seller, and there are plenty who are willing to work for their customer's interests.
