DAGNABBIT!!!!!
« on: January 23, 2014, 05:15:19 PM »
Three rounds and BANG! No, not really a bang, but something snapped inside my vz-58. and now the trigger doesn't engage anything. Scared to pop that cover to find out what it might have been...

Bummer, but there's nothing for it.

A few years ago, on the day before a match that I was shooting in, the trigger spring (a flat leaf-type spring) broke in my Mosin-Nagant 91/30. It was a mad scramble to try and find a new one for the next day, until I realized that it was the same part as in my M39. I swapped them out and made the match. Bought some spares that same day.

The same thing happened to me with my M44 the last time I was at the range. One shot and then nothin. I replaced the trigger spring and now have the best bleep trigger I had on a mosin. It worked out great.

I am sorry for you. However, we need to know what happened and if it is an easy fix.

Sorry I was not more clear, vblue42. I was actually intending to refer to the original post. In any event, I am pleased that yours was an easy fix.
I am very curious to know what happened to armoredman's VZ58.
Actually, while I am at it,  armoredman, you say VZ58. Was it in fact a VZ58 or a VZ2008?

SA vz-58 from CzechpointUSA. It MAY be out of warranty, not sure, but I did pop the cover and discovered it will be a VERY easy fix...I just need a new striker. Go figure.

The back of it snapped clean off. Weird. I've contacted Dan Brown about it, and we'll see. If not under warranty, I'll have to scrape up a few pennies - strikers are $27 each.

Edit to add, I was talking about it to my landlord that I think I have somewhere around 5-6,000 rounds through the rifle, and he remarked, "That's probably more than most of these will be shot in a lifetime. Point to consider.

edit to add, Dan Brown at CzechpointUSA confirmed the rifle is well out of warranty, but they will be shipping me a new striker FOC next week. Good CS always wins the day.

Plus who knows how many rounds went through that part before it was rebuilt as a D-technic. I know they use used parts to build them but am not sure if some of the common wear items were changed. No telling how many rounds that striker  saw when it was in a full auto rifle.

Glad you got it figured out and that it will be an easy fix. Relatively high round count by the way.

That's a great point.

Glad to hear the folks at CSA are treating your right!

That is fantastic customer service A man.  I think it's safe to say looking at the two parts you certainly shot the hell out of it.

I do shoot the heck out of this thing - it's too much fun to shoot! Now that I found a lead load that doesn't lead up my gas piston, I use less powder and shoot FAR cheaper bullets, (after adding in the cost of lead, gas checks, and even electricity, they come out to something like a hair over 5 cents each), and with less wear and tear on the brass, I get longer life there, too. Win/Win/Win situation, especially with a big and FREE rifle range right next door. Only thing I go thorough quick is targets, and since I got Thugly, that's not really an issue anymore, either.
