Canik 55 Stingray-C
« on: February 24, 2014, 10:28:44 PM »
Hello,

My first CZ Clone purchase

I read great reviews and I must say after shooting it for the first time, they are right!
I need some help with accessories, I cant find much of anything for the Stingray. I read that its a clone of the CZ P-01. What I'm looking for is a left handed IWB and KYDEX holsters. I would also like to replace the sites. I have a fixed rear sights.

Thanks for the

I would've gone for the Shark for an attempt at IWB; it is functionally the same but the barrel and front end are less squared. Grips will also make a huge difference; some will barely be thicker that the widest bits of exposed frame. Those style grips add about a quarter inch on either side of the gun, and are pretty uncomfortable, to boot.

For holsters, it's often best to go to a good local shop. You may pay a little more, but they'll typically not mind you trying out a few different holsters, and that beats sending one or more back in the mail. A leather IWB will be the eaiest to find. I like Safarilands for quality/function/price. If they don't make a CZ-75 model I'd be surprised. 'Jericho' or 'Baby Eagle' fitment would probably be the only other that a manufacturer might list. But hell, you may find a holster for a Glock or an M&P or some other gun fits yours great.

Kydex has to be an exact mold, for the most part, and I suspect your Stingray may be too chunky to fit in any mass-producted CZ-75 holster. I would get someone to make a custom one. Or make one myself.

Welcome to the Forum and Congratulations on your new Canik 55 Stingray!  8)

As for Holsters, try ones for the Cz P01, H&K USP, and Springfield XD & XDM.

This was a quick review I did on another site

This all started when I was looking for semi-auto pistols that had a low bore axis and I came a cross the CZ75.  An outstanding gun going back into the late 70's. The price $544 as of this posting. I didn't want to spend that much so I continued to look. Upon more research I came across the Canik 55 Stingray-C in 9MM (the C is for Compact) Turkish made. It is a  CZ P-01 clone, price of the CZ P-01 is $627. The amazing thing about this gun (well to me) is that the slide rides inside the frame lowering the bore axis (like the CZ's). This setup in theory helps with accuracy. I know it's not new technology, but it's new to me :)

Take a look at the comparison with the PPQ, notice that the PPQ's barrel tilts up more than the Stingray. Also take a look at the low bore axis and slide difference as stated above.

(The smudges in the pictures above is excessive oil from the factory. It is not a flaw in the cerakote finish)

I bought the Stingray-C from J&G Sales for $349.73 with shipping to The Freedoms Shoppes front door without transfer fees.

The Canik 55 Stingray-C comes in Black, Chrome, Tan, or Olive Green.  It comes with an ambidextrous safety, slide release lever (fantastic I'm a lefty), and two 15 Round Mec-Gar STANDARD CAPACITY MAGAZINES! Yes, when a hand gun comes from the factory with 15, 17, etc...round magazines they are STANDARD CAPACITY!!!!!!!!! not high or large capacity magazines. I was forced by Connecticut to buy a 10 Round Low Capacity Magazine! I was offered a choice by the Freedom Shoppe to get the magazines pinned, but I decided not to due to the possibility of reliability issues. So I left the 15 rounders with them.

The Stingrays trigger is not as nice as my Walther PPQ (although the PPQ's trigger is considered to be very light) but the Stingrays trigger breaks clean and it doesn't have any gritty feel to it. It does require effort, but it is a trigger I can get used to. The recoil is buttery smooth, less felt recoil due to the low bore axis. It is also due to the heft of this gun. It's a heavy gun and some might not consider it as a carry gun, but I certainly don't mind the weight. I will be carrying it. Specs below...

Caliber 9x19mm Para.
Length 7.1 inches
Height 5 inches
Width 1.4 inches
Weight 2.245 lbs. unloaded
Barrel Length 3.75 inches
Color Olive Green  Cerakote
Magazine Capacity 15
Effective Range 76 Yards ? 229 Feet (+/- %10)

The target below was my first time shooting the Stingray and it was straight out of the case without cleaning the gun. I was shooting Tula 115 Grain 9MM Aluminum cased Ammo.

Target Area 1: 15 Ft, 10 Shots

Target Area 2: 15 Ft, 20 Shots

Target Area 3: 15 Ft, 30 Shots

Target Area 4: 20 Ft, 30 Shots

Target Area 5: 20 Ft, 20 Shots

Target Area 6: 25 Ft, 20 Shots

Target Area 7: 25 Ft, 20 Shots

Target Area 8: 30 Ft, 10 Shots

Target Area 9: 30 Ft, 10 Shots

I was shooting center on every target and it was landing to the right and slightly up. I've only been shooting for a year, so I know this gun is capable of more in an experienced shooters hand. Any advice on technique, please let me know

Also, I was having some problems on the dark background targets. The front spacing on the sights blended with the target so I had a hard time lining up the three white dots. Is it me or do I need better sights. I had the same problem with my PPQ.

(The smudges in the pictures above is excessive oil from the factory. It is not a flaw in the cerakote finish)

Conclusion: You get a lot for your money. The fit and cerakote finish is nice! I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it. This gun feels great!!!

When I finish up some of my other projects, and get some cash then I'm gonna get CGW EZ drift sights.

That's unless, I keep reading threads like yours and spend that money and get an OD Green or Titanium Stingray.

How solid is that Cerakote?  Let us know how the Cerakote survives holster wear.
