Canik T100 Barrel - Polishing
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:29:41 PM »
I am going to polish the feed ramp on my T100 pistol, and thought about also removing the blue on the barrel and polishing the whole thing.  I prefer the chromed look of a barrel such as on my CZ75.
I have seen articles and videos on different ways of doing this.  Has anyone done this yet?  Is the barrel blackened chrome or will be exposing bare steel - and have rust issues - if I remove the finish?

Bare Steel.  Just keep it greased.

Use 320 grit sandpaper to get the paint off. You can go to 220, but it will be harder to get scratches out of the metal.

At 320-400 or so, you can use polishing compound to get pretty shiny. I did latter half of the barrel and the visible part of the chamber (ejection port) as soon as I got the my Canik, because a CZ design with a black ejection port just looked wrong, more than anything.

It is your pistol, do what you want.
Personally, I would leave well enough alone.
When you remove the finish from the barrel, you reduce the diameter
and create a looser barrel to slide fit, thereby reducing accuracy.
My C-100 is very accurate and I would do nothing to reduce that.
I shot one 5 shot group into 4 inches at 50 yards last week, from
a sandbag rest. The bullseye was in the center of the group. This
was my best group ever with this pistol, however it is one of the
most accurate pistols I have ever shot!

Thanks for all of the feedback.  Leaning towards leaving it as is.  I recently purchased a can of Mothers Mag Wheel Polish (I could never find Flitz).  Got great results on a couple of stainless guns and I guess I was getting carried away......
