Carbon Fiber Grips?
« on: November 20, 2014, 08:40:19 PM »
So I just got my CZ 75BD back from CGW (reach reduction kit, new hammer, sights and some other work) and though I haven't gotten to the range yet, the gun looks great.  I had originally ordered the thin aluminum grips as well, but just before David began working on the gun, we spoke about grips and he told me he was supposed to be getting some new carbon fiber grips pretty soon.  I told him to hold off on the aluminum ones and that I'd buy the carbon ones when he got them in.  When I got the gun back today, he had installed the aluminum ones but hadn't charged me.  I e-mailed him and explained what had happened and we agreed that I'd just send the aluminum ones back to him and he could credit the cost of shipping them back to my purchase of the carbon ones once he got them.  I was showing the gun to my daughter and she really liked the aluminum grips.  The reason I wanted the carbon ones is from my experience as a road cyclist where I've found carbon to be much more absorbing than aluminum.  But I can't find any reviews on carbon grips and I'm wondering if I'm being a bit too picky and I should just pay for and keep the aluminum grips.

If anyone has any experience with carbon grips, particularly as compared to aluminum ones, I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks

The thin AL grips work great for me.

Never seen them but do think they would look pretty slick !

If I understand your reason, you will see little to no difference in felt recoil between the two.

Carbon fiber grips actually sound pretty sweet, I think I just found my first little custom project (I have made CF guitars in the past). I doubt they will have any difference in "feel" from the aluminum if they are the same dimensions. Except maybe on cold days, where they will likely be more comfortable (warm) for the first few rounds comparatively.

I actually use carbon grips that were made by Designergrips.com a few years ago. These were lighter than the AL grips and thinner than stock plastics and were selected to make IDPA weight on my SP01.

They make no difference in felt recoil and they are modestly more slippery than the AL grips, too. However, on a cold day, they are more comfortable to shoot since they don't conduct heat quite as much.

More than anything, they add a certain bling to the gun. I heard that Paul (?) sold Designergrips a few years ago? not sure if they still make grips for full size 75s.
