Looking for tips and tricks for assembling the sear spring
« on: March 06, 2014, 01:09:02 PM »
I'm having a heck of a time with this for some reason. Finally got it, but some tricks for making this go easier would be very appreciated. My problem seems to be that the legs on the spring are just a little too short. Push one way and the sear end slips off the sear and the whole spring drops through, push another way and the sear cage end slips off and into the safety pin channel and wedges itself in there. Even with a home made slave pin, it was kind of a bear. The sear wanted to torque and twist, binding on the pin and making it impossible to push in by hand (had to tap in with hammer, which I would prefer not to do for fear of scratching the pin or enlarging the holes).

I use a few wood wedges to hold my sear in place when I am working on it.

Let the government figure it out!

Lots of rocks and stones, and pretty good with a slingshot!

I put upward pressure from the bottom side of the sear cage on the edge of the sear itself. Then setting the sear spring into position I use a small punch to push the sear spring down far enough to allow the sear cage slave pin to slide through the spring and into the other side of the sear. Next I slide the firing pin block lifter arm into position and push the slave pin in further to keep the lever in place but allowing the lifter spring room  to be slid into position. At this point I use my thumb on top of the sear cage covering the lifter spring putting enough pressure downward until I can see it through the side of the sear cage. I then use an extremly small eye glasses flat blade screw driver inserted through the lifter side of the sear cage and put downward pressure on the bottom edge of the lifter spring enough to be able to use finger pressure to push the slave pin through the lifter spring without causing any damage to the spring. This works for me but it takes alot patience

Thanks, for the tips llh1956. I think I probably just need practice at this. I did the install again last night to put the CGW sear in and it went much easier the second time. I'm removing the firing pin block too, so not have the lifter and spring to worry about made it much easier (just using a spacer to take up the space now).

make sure the hammer spring is out while trying to install the sear cage , just the spring sometimes that puts pressure on the disconector and makes it harder to get the sear cage in place. the first time reassembling all the springs and parts on the decocker model i had took me a couple hours. What helped me was reading some of the stickies posted here and encouragementand input from other members.
