single loading?
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:52:39 PM »
I have been shooting a 527 .223 Varmit for awhile now. I needed to finish free floating the barrel. Other than that it is a wonderfull rifle.

I shoot alot of groups off the bench and often it is easier to single load into the open action . I know thats a big issue with some controlled feed systems, the bolt and extractor snap over the rim very easily on the round . Any thoughts?
The manual does not address the single loading issue yea or nay.

Actually, the online version of the manual addresses this question at the top of page 23...

Note:
Loading is also possible for single cartridges by directly inserting into the chamber without the use of a magazine.

For what it is worth. I called CZ in Kansas City and asked one of their Gunsmiths  about single loading any of our CZ Rifles. And was told (( Not to do this )) and that about 1/2 of the CZ rifles they had in the shop to be reparied, was caused by single loading. Even the Guy in charge of CZ`s Custom Shop in Warsaw Mo warned me not to Single Load any CZ rifle. I think I am going to buy 2 of thoes  Calhoon single shot followers. One for my CZ 22 Hornet and one for my CZ 223 and 17 Rem.

Did they say it was OK to load singles if you used the Calhoon Single Shot follower?

YES  both of these people told me, that using a Calhoon Single Shot Follower would be all right.  One of the members of the  Gun Club, I belong too has one.For His CZ 527 22 Hornet and he swears by it. I talked to MR Calhoon on the phone a month of so back and He really seemed like a nice Guy.

Will the BobSled system work just as good as the Calhoon system?
