Tristar T120 vs P120
« on: June 30, 2014, 10:07:13 AM »
Is the T120 mechanically the same as the P120? They appear to be incidental, just that the T120 has the angled dustcover, and the P120 is flush.

Thanks for any info!

The T-120 has a steel alloy frame and it weighs 1.88 lbs. The P-120 has a steel frame and it weighs 2.6 lbs. Mechanically they are about the same, but the sights may be different. Some T-120s have 2 different styles of sights.
I hope this helps.

Both are based on the CZ 75 frame. The slide is about all that is different.

WDButcher is correct regarding the sights. I had a T120 that had fixed sights (Front sight was staked and no hope for changing unless gunsmith did heavy mods)

There are some T120 owners that look to have CZ style sights. The P120 is pretty darn close to the CZ SP-01. You can read more and see my pics comparing the two here... http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=928523

The T120 felt great and I would have kept it if I could have swapped the sights. I am not a big fan of the super small\low profile sights that come standard on the Tristar\Canik pistols.

BUT, Cajun Gun works has a nice selection of trigger upgrades and some fiber optic sights for the Tristar\Canik line. My P120 is there now getting some trigger work. If it comes out good, I plan to send my S120 in as well.

Best of luck with your choice!

Does the P120 generally fit in SP01 holsters?

Congratulations on your purchase! I'm sure you will like your new P-120.
I would think that it should fit any holster made for a SP-01 since they have about the same dimensions.

While the P-120 is an EXCELLENT firearm, I wish Canik made the beaver tail a little longer (reaching further back on my hand) and some more aggressive checkering on the front and rear of the grip. Obviously they are little niggles but just my wishes. Oh, and the rail segments should be a little deeper as well.

Perhaps these are issues that prevent Canik from being taken to court by CZ.

I'm waiting for the P-120 to be offered in 40 S&W sometime next year. But only because I have the T-120 in 9mm!
