75B magazine base lock question
« on: May 09, 2014, 01:15:11 PM »
Yep..got to admit it...let the spring and base lock loose when taking a 9mm 75B 10 round mag apart and the garage swallowed up the base lock....I have looked at the catalog and at the CZ custom shop info and all I find is an SP 101 "new style" base lock and don't know if it will work to replace the little flat steel plate with the dimple button in the center and the ends folded over to grip the spring....can't find the part listed anywhere and sure don't want to spend too much to replace the little part...my stupidity...I know better but got distracted...

any help appreciated (part#, price, where to order, etc...)  Many thanks

kerncat,  if you verify that the 16rd magazine flat metal base plate is the same as the 10 rd mags,  I've got one I can send you.
Let me know.

Thanks for the link...that's the one for the hi cap and ..don't think it is the same as the one for the 75B 10 round capacity mag...Thanks however...I'll sort of keep tracking things.

Thanks for the offer..I'm pretty sure the base lock is different but can't verify that....that's sort of the motivation to post here...the CZ and CZ custom literature all show one type and comment it is for high capacity...my problem is the old California 10 round mag rule and the base of the mag is the plastic one that slides in with a hollow base and a hole in it that takes the "button" lock....Is there any chance you have one of your's out where a pic could be taken with ease?  if so I can give you my e mail address and I'd be glad to pay for it if it looks right...the one I need is flat metal..squared off at the back and sort of rounded a little at the front...it has metal "tabs" that are folded under at the front and back to retain the top "loop" of the spring in place...sort of like trying to describe a spiral staircase without using your hands...
Thanks again

Call or email CZ-USA and ask,  OR
did you check with the CZ Custom Shop?   They "might" have one.  I know they can supply the 10 rd mags for those states that are nuts.  ;)

I've contacted both CZ and the Custom shop and so far not gotten an answer but it's not been long enough to get a reply...I have a feeling the "new style" baselock is the only one they produce and sell any more...but they didn't indicate it would work for a 75b with a 10 round magazine...Think it was an error in the details of their ad...I may just go ahead and order one...it's only $5 and might work fine...if not, I'm not out much...

Thanks for all the inputs...my post was just in case Angus happened by and could clear this up with a very quick reply but I'll bet he's busy as are all the gun folks right now...

Thanks again

I have not seen a 10 rnd latch plate in the flesh but I would think that it was made in two pieces. A plate with the button staked into it like the ones in the magazines that have the polymer base pads. If you do not have any luck with your search I believe I could make you one that would be serviceable.

Well, everyone....slow and easy wins the race every time...I took apart my garage near where the base lock got loose this morning...it had flipped up under a cabinet and dropped down into a big coffee can that was full to the top with junk parts of every description...I dumped it all out and there was the base lock...about half way down just sitting there with nails, hooks, screws, junk and stuff.  So It's back in the magazine and all is well...

Mucho appreciate all the replies and help..I learned long ago that when I'm working with anything with a spring to work in a plastic bag...just got in a hurry this time and proved the spring is faster than either my hand or eye...All is well and I'm on to other things

Thought I'd do a brief update...even though I found it I still got an answer from CZ and the base lock they show for the high cap magazines, etc is also the same as the one that fits the 10 round mag for the 75/85...so I went ahead an ordered one along with a spare magazine spring so when it all flies apart the next time I'll have a spare if I can recall where I put it..guess the new version is more reliable and easier to use.

I suspect all of the spare parts I ordered "just in case" that have wandered off are holding a wild party somewhere with about half a dozen of my socks and a lot of needles for hand-pumps.  I wish I knew where...

Glad you found it kerncat.

I started my handgun collection with non-CZ firearms.  And I REALLY appreciate the availability and prices of CZ parts.

This reminds me of a story that took place many years ago.  I was disassembling a 45 clone in my kitchen, when the recoil spring plug took off across the kitchen.  After two days of looking, we gave up.  Two weeks later we go to light the gas oven (this was way back don't forget), using a wooden match from a holder atop the stove.  That is where the recoil spring plug was, in with the wooden matches.  And of course we had looked in there but didn't see it because it had buried itself much as a dime would in beach sand.  I think I still have the gun around somewhere.
